Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have posted about this piece a number of times.  I was able to add the final stitches to it this week.  I really enjoyed this slow stitching project and rather pleased with it.  It is a bright and cheerful landscape full of stitched love.  I can definitely see myself doing something along this line again.  I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Journal Page

Image
This is not a remarkable piece of art but it was ever so fun to do.  I did a mini-workshop and the instructions were to do a collage with any kind of scrap paper and then add doodles.  In her instructions, she used a plain black pen to do the doodles.  I tried that and enjoyed it but I enjoy using colour more!  I have more journal pages with scraps already glued down just waiting for me to add my doodles.  Working in an art journal is so freeing.  There is no pressure to create something 'good'.  It is time to explore what different materials will do, how the media will react.  Let the colours fly! Journal

Image
This little journal is full of joy and strength.  I created it from one large sheet of paper that my granddaughter had painted.  I folded and cut it so that is eight pages that include pockets.  On each page, I adhered one letter to spell the word strength which we all need.  Each pocket also has a page inside.  I haven't pictured them as I haven't done much on them as yet.  The cover is collaged fabric and beading.  I used bright and cheerful colours that make me happy. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I have made a little headway on my bead journal for this month.  I better get cracking on it to finish before the end of the month.  I have been a little distracted from my stitching.  I signed up for a couple of online art journal workshops and have been enjoying splashing paint around.  There doesn't seem to be enough time for painting and stitching.  Both are relaxing and enjoyable.  I am not sure if I will post my paintings even though I am happy with the paintings they are not remarkable.  Back to the beading! Slow Stitching Sunday

I have started hand quilting this piece.  I have the perfect thread for it in my stash.  That makes me so happy when that happens.  Not that I am against buying more thread mind you! Hand quilting on my deck, in the sunshine, is an absolutely delightful pastime.   I want to start adding beads to this piece but haven't quite figured that part out. Fabric/Paper Collage

Image
I have had a lot of pleasure creating my little collages.  They are fairly quick to create and I enjoy that as a lot of my pieces can involve a fair amount of time.  At least, by my standards.  I think this is the last one.  I now need to put my thinking cap on as to how to bind all my pages together into one book form.  Nothing has sprung immediately to mind so I may have to let this percolate.  No rush.  I am confident the idea will come. Work in Progress Wednesday

I have added more beads to this piece.  There is a lot going on in this piece and yet I still feel more is needed.  I will keep stitching on it.  The weather is good and I can sit outside and enjoy my new deck while stitching.   I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/   https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

I think street art is so great.  It is amazing to me that artists can think so big.  It seems overwhelming to me.  Possibly I could paint a giant mandala but not something like this. I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I made some progress on my bead journal for June.  I managed to sit outside and enjoy some stitching and some sunshine yesterday.    That is complete and utter bliss for me.  I really do count myself as blessed to be to that.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Collage

Image
I while ago I did an embroidery challenge and created the background for this.  It was not remarkable but I am not one to waste something.  It wasn't intended for a background but I think it works for this collage.  I covered most of it and that makes it better.  I love the wool fabric base and it will work in my collage book perfectly. Work in Progress Wednesday

Can you see any resemblance to the fabric I posted last week?  I really liked that fabric but knew I had to take it further.  I got out my paints and just had so much fun adding colour.  It is so much more interesting.  What will I do with it now?  Quilt it?  Bead it? I am still enjoying looking at the beautiful street art that we saw in Mexico. I so enjoy seeing all the talent of artists.  I can appreciate the creativity of all artists.  I don't always like the art of all artists but that's okay.   I am linking to  http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

This piece is coming along slowly but enjoyably.  I have started adding beads and that is a favourite thing to do.  I am hoping that I can sit outside and do some more beading/stitching today.  Oh, how I love enjoying the sunshine and stitching.  Actually, I have been taking my journal outside and enjoying that as well.  Making art of any kind outside is very satisfying. Fabric and Paper Collage

Image
These little collages are quick and fun to create.  They will all come together to make an interesting journal of this crazy time.  I would say they are not particularly reflective of this COVID time which is fine with me.  I don't need my art to be that.  My art-making is solace for my soul.  My art-making is something I HAVE to do and that is enough. Work in Progress Wednesday

This piece of fabric jumped out at me today.  I am not sure that it is a work in progress.  I am not totally sure about it at all but I do like the stencilled gear pattern.  I am pondering cutting it up for collage or stitching into it.  Or both.  Or adding more paint.  I just got excited about adding more paint so I think that is the answer. If we choose to look for it we can always find beauty.  We can always find something for which to be grateful.  We can always find good and caring people.  I know many artists feel they need to call attention to the dark and ugly.  That is their choice and I applaud them for making a statement.  I choose to concentrate on what brings me joy.  I think we need more joy and light in the world. I saw this gorgeous street art in Mexico when we were there earlier this year.  I am grateful we got to have a warm holiday before all of the craziness started.
