Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Well, I have made some small improvements on this piece. I am getting closer to liking it. I have decided that I won't be putting it in my granddaughter's book. It just doesn't quite fit with it. That's okay as it has definitely been a learning piece. Learning is good but not always fun! I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I think puppy is finished. Although, I am debating adding another row of beads around the large bead for his ear. This photo does not capture the sparkle of the Swarovski crystal beads I used for his face. I wonder if I should have used slightly larger beads but they do sparkle in person. Still, they need to sparkle in a photograph to work properly for my book for my granddaughter. I am definitely making progress on this project and that feels good. Another book page

Image
I have made more progress on my book for my granddaughter. I dug out this unfinished piece and added black to the sky and irridescent white to the ground. There is more to do but I am well on my way to depicting the aurora borealis on this page. It isn't what I was originally thinking I would do but I think this works better for the book and keeping the look cohesive. I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

I was able to have some stitching time with this piece in the last few days. I really like the way it is coming along. I am still pondering a way of using this for a page in my book for my granddaughter. I have the story about half written now. I know where the story is going and that feels good. I think I am on track for getting this finished in time for Christmas. Yay! I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Hubby and I celebrated our 34th anniversary yesterday. This photo I took at Giverny 9 years ago. Visiting Monet's garden was a dream come true. What an amazing trip we had to celebrate our 25th. Next year will be 35 and I wonder if we will be able to travel anywhere. This covid thing seems like it will never end! Slow Stitching Sunday

< This week hasn't been overly productive stitching wise. Other art opportunities have been presented and I am keen to submit something for them. Who knows if I will have my ideas accepted but I think it is worth a try. I also worked on a new technique and want to write an article about it. I would love to have it published in a magazine. I feel like this page is really close to finished. I want to do a bit more beading on the moon and possibly the tree. I think it will a pretty page in my granddaughter's book. She will love the pink flowers. I am wanting to publish this book once it is done. I hope it isn't too feminine to appeal to little boys as well! I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Nearing Completion

Image
+ This page for my granddaughter's book is nearing completion. The loon is just placed there right now and needs to be permanently attached. I am mainly pleased with this one. There is a quiet area on the left and that is where the text will appear. I am debating adding more beading but maybe I should leave that for now. I don't like the idea of being distracted from this project but three new opportunities have come onto my radar. I am interested in them and they even pay! I am capable of doing more than one thing at a time! I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Well, stitching has improved this piece. There are still issues with it that I don't like but I am not ready to give up on it just yet. The struggle to get it right is somewhat diminishing the fun of creating it. However, I am nothing if not persistent. I am determined to make it right. Never give up! Never say die! I guess at some point you have to give up but I am not there yet. I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

It always feels good to have my art accepted into a show. This photo is going to be printed onto a vinyl banner and will hang at a park in Jersey City, NJ. I wish I lived close enough to go and see all the other amazing art that will be hanging in the parks there. What a clever way to have art available to everyone! Slow Stitching Sunday

I have made some progress on my little puppy. Basically, just the face left to do. That's the tricky part. That's where are all the soul and character show through. Geez, not stressful to get that right! I also need to come up with a name for him. I am leaning towards Dug but that could change. Working on this story for my granddaughter has really opened up the story teller in me. I have not thought of myself as a writer but I have been faithfully writing a blog for over ten years. I write an email to my sister almost everyday and that has been been at least 15 years. Maybe, it is just that words aren't my preferred way of communicating. Maybe, that is changing. Struggling

Image
I signed up for the San Fransisco School of Needlework's 'Choices' challenge. I am regretting that decision and I think I knew I would and should not have signed up. However, I did sign up and I don't like to flake out. It took me a good while to come up with the right idea. I was hoping that I could also use the piece in the book I am creating. Just when I released that hope an idea came to me. My piece is based on the Robert Frost poem The Road Less Travelled. I want to depict a fork in the road and I was hoping to have some perspective in the landscape. I am just not very good at that and I have been struggling and struggling with this. There are aspects of this piece that I like but there are also parts I am not happy with at all. Do I just start stitching into this in hopes that the stitching makes it better? Stitching makes everything better right? I want to add a fall tree and fall leaves to it. I am also considering stitching the road in gold thre

I thought this piece was finished and had put it away. However, I have resurrected it to use in my book for my granddaughter. I have added more beading but there is still more to do. It feels good to have another 'page' close to finished. I think I can find a few other pieces that I can resurrect and that will make this project feel less daunting. I am completely enjoying it and don't want to put too much pressure on myself but I really would like to have this finished for Christmas. Having that goal helps to keep me concentrated. If I find it too difficult I will adjust the date and it can be a birthday present instead. I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

The water was so pretty at Tobermory that day. I have really been enjoying going through some of my older photos. It is like visiting old friends. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
Slow stitching indeed. I did make some progress on this piece. I do wish it could have been more but it was a bit of a busy week. Some progress is better than nothing. This piece still requires more layers and beading. I also have a loon to add to it. I feel like I should stay concentrated on this book project as I am eager to have it done as a Christmas gift. I don't want to put too heavy pressure on myself though. I don't want that deadline to rob me of the joy of creating it. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/ Oh dear, blogger still isn't working properly. Neither version! Annoying!

I started this at the beginning of the summer and then got sidetracked. I have been very concentrated on the book I am doing for my granddaughter but I have picked it up again as it is good to do something different. Not that it is terribly different. I really do like stitching over the painted lace. I love the texture and the impressionistic quality. This is my fourth block done this way. I am likely going to put all four blocks together into one larger piece. This has been a great way to use my inherited, unfinished blocks. I like to think Aunt Pat would be happy that I am using her unfinished embroidery. I can definitely see myself using more of her blocks this way. I wonder if there is a way to use one of her blocks in my granddaughter's book? hmmm. That would be cool. I must think more about that. I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ Oh, dear. I have reverted to the older blogger in hopes of ge
