I...I am probably the wrong person to ask for tips. I love that there are no rules with crazy quilting - as I am really good at wonky seams. If the lace is really bothering you, I suppose you could remove some. However, when I see it, I see opportunities to layer stitching (flowers? vines?) on the lace, and lovely green seams to embellish.
