Fruit Cups

Image
The title for this art bra is Fruit Cups.  giggles!  I am creating this for the auction in support of HopeSpring Cancer Support Center that I have organized for November.  The inaugural event last year was really well received.  So many artists told me they wanted to participate if we did it again.  So, of course, we have to do it again!  There still a lot to do on this bra but it has a really good start so far! If anyone would like to contribute an art bra please contact me through this blog.  We would love to have more! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/#

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I am amazed that I found time to work on this piece in the last week.  Getting ready for quilt festival has been busy!  I hate going backwards but I learned with this piece that sometimes you really have to do it.  There was a ton of french knots I had to remove.  The color of embroidery thread I used wasn't right.  So that has been corrected and I am happier with it now.  I also added some stitching and ribbon to lower portion. Art Journal prompt

Image
The prompt was to do a page inspired by a movie.  I chose my favorite scene from The Lord of the Rings.  Eowyn says 'I am no man" and then slays the beast.  I love how powerful she was because she was a woman.  I love being a woman and exploring the power and influence I have because of that.  I have the power to create a peaceful home.  My body can create another human being.   Women are pretty amazing.  My background is pretty busy.  Can't say I care for it all that much.  However, I am using a journal that I had put together a while ago so it will have to do.

I am the guest at Today's Flowers blog this week!  It is so cool to link up and be a part of what others are doing!  Now that the good weather is upon us I am excited to get outside with my camera.  Well, at least when this week is done.  Quilt festival is always a busy week for me.  Not a whole lot of creating of any sort happens during this week. Not your typical crazy quilt

Image
This is still very much in progress.  My idea was to do more of a collage style crazy quilt.  I went through a stage not liking it so much.  I am liking it more but I still have some doubts.  The lace and ribbon stitching I have added is pleasing to me.  I will definitely be adding some more ribbon stitching.  I am not sure I will get this done by the end of the month.  The next week and a half is quite busy.  Mostly fun things so that is good! Journal page

Image
I am using a journal I made from leftovers and scraps.  The background can be a bit busy because of that.  This page I wanted to obliterate some of the background so I painted over it with pink.  The prompt was to use a crown.  I decided to do a page about my blog name.  It just seemed appropriate.  Not exactly great art but I am having a lot of fun with it.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My bead journal for May is complete.  I am quite pleased with it.  Using some paper in it feels good to me.  I made a color copy of it and used that in my paper journal.  I love two for one!  The journal prompt was to use my name. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

I know this isn't tack sharp but I think it makes a really interesting abstract! I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/ and http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

A couple of journal pages

Image
I joined a journal prompt group.  Not sure why.  I usually don't like them but this one seemed doable.  Turns out that I really like the prompts and they are kind of fun.  Top photo I used a calendar page printed on a transparency.  The prompt was to use a calendar page so I did just that and added a piece of a photo and some colored tape.  All of the backgrounds in this journal are scraps, over sprayed papers etc. The second photo is for the prompt to use feet in some way on a journal page.  I wasn't terribly excited about this one at first.  But then I thought of shoes and that got me excited!  Love shoes!  Have a massive collection of shoes!  Used to manage a shoe store.  Now I want to do a bunch of journal pages about shoes! Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This something a bit different for me.  I started by adhering doilies to a canvas and then painting the whole thing.  I machine quilted it and then got stuck.  It sat for quite a while before I knew where to go with it.  I have added the circles and some hand embroidery.  I want to add more embroidery and then it should be finished. I heart Macro

Oh how I do love macro!  I saved for quite a while to get my macro lens but boy was it worth it!  I use that lens more than any other.  I was pleased to capture this dandelion with one last seed on it.  I know many think of dandelions as weeds but I like their bright yellow.  And who doesn't like blowing all the seeds off while making a wish!  And remembering the beautiful bouquets my sons would bring home for me! Bead journal progress

Image
I have added some beads!  I am loving the way this piece is going!  I am a bit stuck at the moment.  Not quite sure what my next step is.  I know I want to add more beads for sure.  It has been a really busy week so I just haven't had the time or energy to figure it out. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is truly a work in progress.  This is the start of my crazy quilt block for May.  I am going for more of a collage feel with it.  I have a few issues with it at this point but feel I can deal with them as I start embellishing. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Taking a stitch Tuesday

Image
Here I tried the seam treatment taught by Valerie on the Facebook group Joyful Embellishments.  It is the chevron stitch with lazy daisy.   I have not been very good at combining stitches so this is teaching me a lot.  I am always glad to learn new things!

I am not a big fan of bees but this is a pretty cool shot!  You can see the pollen on its feet.  Do bees have feet?  Whatever. I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/ and http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/

Bead journal for May so far

Image
Not a bead in sight as of yet!  I was looking back on some previous bead journals.  The first year I participated I took a mixed media approach to the bead journals.  I think they are my favorite even though I have learned a lot since I did them.  This month I really wanted to go with the mixed media idea again.  So far I have applied marks to a coffee filter.  I then adhered a kirigami paper cut to the coffee filter.  I have added some embroidery stitches with Kreinik threads as well.  I plan to add more embroidery before I start beading.  I am pleased with my progress!
