Gel plate prints

Image
I do love to experiment!  It just makes me happy to play around and see what happens.   I have experimented with permanent alcohol markers on a gel plate.  The top photo is the gel plate.  I transferred the ink to fabric using rubbing alcohol and some pressure.  It gives an impressionistic quality. I doubt it would work for a highly realistic image but I could be wrong.  I am partial to impressionism so that works for me.  I have yet to sitch into this but I am certain it will work well.  This method does not change the hand of the fabric at all.  There is a lot of potential for this!  I am linking to  http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Getting close to finished!  I am pretty happy with my Tigger dog.  Yes, I have been avoiding the face.  The face is such an important part.  I really don't want to mess it up.  I have been waiting for the right idea to come to me.  Maybe, I should go looking for the right idea.  Maybe, I just need some inspiration.  Maybe, some fluffy thread couched down.  Maybe, more beads.

Oh, camera, you are so much fun to play with!  I love creating abstract images.  The possibilities are endless. I am linking to  http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/ http://floralfridayfoto.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have been adding beads and embroidery to my next dog journal page.  This page is for Trinity.  She was a golden retriever but definitely didn't have the typical golden personality.  She was quite the character.  I can see adding a lot more ribbon embroidery to this one.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Textile Journal Page

Image
This is my completed journal page for our dog Baily.  There is a lot of pink considering he was a male.  I am pretty sure he wouldn't care.  These colours and textures are pleasing to me. I went for a garden feel as his dog tag looks like a flower.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

Slow progress is better than no progress.  I have added some silk ribbon embroidery to this piece.  I guess I haven't made a lot of progress because I am not quite sure what this wants.  I need my piece to speak to me.  I find it better to work that way than to push ahead.  I don't mind working on another piece while waiting for the right idea.

Okay, I like this better now and I am calling it finished.  I swapped the dog tag as this better represents Tigger, our first dog.  He was a little spaniel with springs on his feet.  This piece has a lot of energy and movement, just like Tigger.  I took out some stitches that didn't seem right and I added more beading.  Now I need to get this photo sent off to San Fransisco School of Needlework.  It feels good to have something finished.  I have been starting so many new things and haven't finished much for a while. Finished Mandala

Image
I did not add a lot of beading and stitching to this mandala.  The pattern I created was enough and only needed to be enhanced.  Having a quick and easy piece to finish was good.  Sometimes that is all my attention span can handle.  I have been flitting from project to project lately. Writing two proposals and taking a writing course have been using up my powers of concentration.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am so excited to be trying something new!  I have been making crazy quilts for a long time and this week I learned something new!  I bought the ebook Crazy Quilting Volume 1 by Kathy Shaw.  In the book, she describes whole cloth crazy quilting.  Well, honestly that is right up my alley.  I love the handwork!  I got out this gorgeous piece of hand-dyed silk.  I have started applying the main motif which is tree done in silk ribbon embroidery.  Once I am finished with that I will start doing the faux seams.  I love learning new things!   There are actually some tulips starting to bloom since we are having such a warm spring.  An early and warm spring are most welcome.  It is like nature is saying 'sorry you are facing yet another lockdown'.  Having some cheery blooms aids one's spirit.   I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://floralfridayfoto.blogspot.com/2021/04/fff488-catalpa.html http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/2021/04/garden-affair-mesembryanthemum.html

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I made a lot of progress on my puppy this week.  The weather has been glorious and stitching outside is one of my favourite things to do.  Yesterday it was utterly perfect so I overdid it and I got a bit pink.  It was worth it.  I am still not sure how I am going to stitch his sweet face.  I will keep working on his body for now.  I trust the right idea will come to me.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Mandala stitching

Image
Many years ago I was gifted with some hand-dyed fat quarters.  Seeing the set of them you would know why they didn't particularly appeal to me.  The set ranges from blue to purple and have a lot of grey in them.  I tend towards a more pure saturated colour.   Still, they were a thoughtful gift and I have kept them all these years.  While looking for fabric that would work with this mandala I stumbled upon that set and decided to look at it with new eyes.  When I pulled this fabric from the bunch I could see that it would work nicely with mandala.   The mandala is done on a coffee filter which I made more sturdy by adhering to fusible interfacing.  I am excited to get stitching on this one.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

My fibre journal page for the San Fransisco School of Needlework challenge is getting close to finished.  It needs something to pull it all together as it is looking disjointed and overly busy to me.  This page is in remembrance of Farley.  Best dog ever!  He was a quiet and gentle golden retriever and this page is not reflecting that at the moment.  I need to ponder a good solution. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
Puppy progress has been made.  I have been avoiding the face other than the eye.  Getting the face right is important and I haven't decided how to do it.  I am not certain that I want it to be done in beads but then what else?  If embroidery stitches, what threat?  What stitch?  I can picture exactly how I want to do the ear so that will be next.  I find it best to work the things that I know for certain.  The step always presents itself. Another Mandala

Image
I have added a bit of beading to this one.  I could almost call it done at this point.  Usually, I like to add more beading so this doesn't quite feel enough.  I do love the acrylic skin I created.  It was easy to stitch down as I left openings for that.  Mind you, acrylic skin would not be difficult to pierce with a needle.   I will continue to ponder adding more beads or not.
