more fall color

Image
I love the color of fall but the red and green makes me think about Christmas coming!  Where does the time go!

fall color

It was a lovely afternoon for a walk.  The wild flowers are still blooming and their color is fabulous!  My Nikon rocks!

moving past the ugly

This journal page has a lot of layers to it.  It has taken me a lot of tries to get it right but I didn't quit.  I guess that is a life lesson - don't quit until you get it right.  I actually still may add something more to this page!

journal cover made from a padded mailing envelop

Image
I have been having so much fun creating journal covers with fabric and padded mailing envelopes.   I was inspired by Traci Bautista.  She mentioned doing this on her blog so I thought I would give it a try.  My sewing machine is co-operating with me and that is a good thing.  I have so many ideas of colors and fabric combinations that I want to try.

shopping fun

I love going to Toronto.  Yesterday I got to go to John Bead Outlet in Toronto.  They have fantastic prices.  The vials of beads cost a dollar a piece!  The cabochons in the lower picture cost a bit more but they are so gorgeous.  I can't wait to use them.

can you see a difference

I am happier with this piece now.   I brightened it up and added a bit of glitz.  You'll never believe how I did.   I used some glittery gold nail polish!  Fun stuff.  A little glitz always makes things better!

September bead journal project

I did some needle felting on velvet - yummy!  I then stitched on some beads.  I used an entire package of swarovski crystals on this piece.  I am using my good stuff!  It feels good.  It used to be that I would be concerned I wouldn't have enough of something.  I would store up stuff and be afraid to use it.  I have let go of that kind of thinking.  If I need more of something I can just go buy it!    There is always more good stuff coming.   Go ahead have fun with the good stuff

kid's tempera paint and charcoal

Image
Open studios with Sandra Spagnuolo was so much fun yesterday!  We played with tempera paint pucks.  We added charcoal, we then dipped the whole thing into water.  Some of the paint and charcoal washed away.  We then worked back into the painting.  We were definitely not to get too attached to what we had done as it could wash away in the next step!  Lessons in letting go, letting the art flow.  Good stuff. This piece seems to be a bit dark to me although I do like it.  We coated our pieces with matt medium but that doesn't have to be the final step.  I will continue to work with this piece.  Maybe add some pencil crayon or something to lighten it up a bit.

more from our play day last week

Image
Mary Lynn showed us how to weave two photos together last week.  She generously shared some of her photos with us.  She is such a good photographer!  I must say it was a little easier to cut into someone else's photos than my own.   This is a combination of a photo of stained glass and a photo of grass.  Pretty cool!

First blog post with my Mac

Image
Not that it will look any different.  There is certainly a learning curve for working with a Mac!  I'm getting there with a little help from my friend Mary Lynn. Also with the  help of Mary Lynn I have completed my first iphoto book.  I called in Flower Portraits.  Pictured above is the photo I used for the cover.  I can't wait get the book!

Gesso on tissue paper

Image
This is another experiment from our play day last week.  We painted both sides of a piece of tissue paper.  We used a brayer to apply the gesso as well as the paint.  It gives you a really great texture.  Some tissue give more texture than others.

where does the time go?

It is my intention to post on my blog every other day - my apologies for not doing that.  September has been flying by! I had a play day this past week with the usuals.  We enjoyed some art and some laughs.  Pictured above is some index cards we inked.  The plan is to make them into a small book.  I will post it when it gets done. It was fun to just let the ink fly.
