work in progress Wednesday

Image
I have added some more stitching, couching and trims.  It is not likely to be finished by tomorrow though.  Oh well, in a couple of days maybe.  There have been a lot of other projects taking up my time.  They have more pressing deadlines so they take precedence.

zentangle

Image
I have been doing a lot of zentangles lately.  I am wanting to do a piece of furniture with zentangle on it.  Actually I have started drawing the chair.  I can't show it just yet though as it for the Habitat for Humanity project.  Fun!

I got an 'oh wow'

Image
from my husband on this.  Pretty cool!  It doesn't happen very often.  This is a zentangle I have done.  I am planning to do a similar  one on a chair I have painted white.  It is for the Habitat for Humanity project I am working on right now.  I am super excited about the project.  I actually started drawing on the chair this morning.  Unfortunately, I must not have had enough coffee as I drew the heart facing the back of the chair!  ugh!!!  Now I have to prime and paint another coat so that the ink doesn't bleed through.  I have to say I was a tad anxious about making 'mistakes' on this piece.  So  now I have made a great big one and must start over.  Oh well.  Maybe that will be the only mistake I make!

work in progress Wednesday

Image
This is my January block for the 2013 crazy quilt project.  I colored the butterfly with my Pan pastels.  I figure this quilt is not likely to be washed so it should be safe.  I have heard of others using Pan pastels on fabric so I figured it was worth the try.  I also decided to not be a hoarder of special things.  When in France I picked up the blue and purple trim that is in about the middle of the block.  It is so pretty it deserves to be used and not saved.  I also bought the sequins at a flea market in Paris.  I sure hope I can get this block done by the end of January.  I hate to start off the year and be behind right away!

TAST knotted feather stitch

Image
It feels good to be back into doing Take a Stitch Tuesday.  This is another new stitch for me.  I am quite familiar with the feather stitch so adding the knot wasn't too difficult for me.  Instructions for the stitch are at  http://pintangle.com/

2 bags full blog party and give away

Image
I am excited to participate in this grow your blog party!  I still feel like I am pretty inexperienced at blogging even though I have been doing it for a while now.  There is always something new to learn.  I am an artist who loves to play and explore with just about any art material!  My focus lately has been on fibre art but I do play with paint and photography as well. I have these napkins, threads and fibres to give away.  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post.  I will draw a winner on February 1.  I would love it if you became a follower too but that is not a requirement.   http://vicki-2bagsfull.blogspot.ca     This is the link to Vicki's blog to find more participating blogs! Thanks for visiting! The 16th comment won!  That is Denise Bryant.  Please contact me with your address!

Memory opening reception tonight

Image
This is my piece Fondly Remembering that is in the Memory show.  Tonight is the opening reception and I looking forward to going to it! Tomorrow I am participating in a grow your blog party.  I have never done this!  Vicki at  http://vicki-2bagsfull.blogspot.ca    is hosting.  So come back tomorrow to see what my give away is!

Work in Progress Wed. a day late

Image
I added two pieces of peach colored trim to this block.  I also removed a piece of lace that wasn't working.  I really hate picking things off.  But I have learned that if I am not happy with something there is no amount of fixing that can be done to make it right.  It is best to bite the bullet and remove the offending embellishment.  I think there is another piece that I will have to remove from this block too.  Oh well.  I am learning as a I go and learning is important to me.

Something a little different for me

Image
I created this piece before Christmas but haven't quite figured out how to finish it.  I don't think it needs much.  Some sort of simple edging maybe.  I have an old sewing machine (oh how I long for a good, new machine).  My machine will do a couple of 'fancy' stitches so that is what I used on this piece.

crazy quilt blocks

Image
It is lovely to see a body of work all together.  I am looking forward to putting these all together into a quilt.  I think some of the blocks require some more embellishment though.  I also have to get to work on the 2013 crazy quilt project!

gelli plate printing

Image
Last week I had the pleasure of getting together with some friends and exploring our gelli printing plates.  I did four prints onto fabric.  Love it!  I used acrylic paint for printing on the fabric.  It worked great.  I can't wait to do some stitching into these.
This is just a reminder of the classes I will be teaching in January.   We will focus on creating an interesting journal cover in each class.  For those that are interested in fibre/stitching these will be interesting surfaces that you can explore stitching into.  For those that are not into fibre/stitching the surfaces we create will not require anything more to be done to them.  I will be teaching some fun book arts workshops.  All the books will have interesting covers with some cool insides.  The binding methods will vary but none of them will be overly difficult or complicated. In February I will be teaching needle felting as I had a few requests for this.  We will be working with a lot of interesting materials.  You will find out why you need to shop in the fly tying section of sporting stores!  Silks and sheers, roving and threads will be used.  No stitching

bead journal project for 2012

Image
I have to say that I really like seeing all of these together.  It is a nice body of work and it feels good to have completed it.

another crazy quilt block

Image
Last January when I started the crazy quilt project I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do.  That month I made a round piece.  In February I made a heart piece and decided that I would stick with that shape for the rest of the year.  I needed to create one more heart so that I would have an even number.  I won't use the round piece in the quilt.  It will have to find a home some where else.

December bead journal project

Image
December really zipped past!  It feels good to be back to a regular routine, if my life could be considered regular!  I had this bead piece done in December but just didn't find the time to post about it.  I think it would be cool to do a post showing all 12 bead journal pieces together.  I will have to do some digging in my photo archives and I hope to do that later this week.  It certainly feels good to have stayed on track with this project.  I haven't signed up to participate this year.  I need a bit of a break from it.
