Bead journal project for June

Image
I worked the longtail beaded chain stitch and the beaded feathered chain stitch on this piece.  The background is wool that has been needle felted.  It feels good to have it done.

I enjoy participating in the I heart Macro blog posts.  This week I decided to change it up a bit and feature something other than my auto wrecker shots.  This is an close up of a blue rose.  You can see some other gorgeous macro shots at http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

Distressed leaf

Image
I had a wonderful time the other night.  A friend invited myself and another friend to her home to teach us a technique she had learned from Judy Farrow.  We traced a leaf onto copy paper, layered it with sheer fabric and then stitched the outline and veins.  We went over our stitching a few times so that it would have a sturdy edge.  We then painted the paper leaf and took away any excess paper from the outside edge.  We burned away the fabric with a heat tool.  I also tore away some of the paper that formed the leaf to make it more distressed.  Then added some angelina fibres.  I really enjoyed learning the technique.  My mind is a spin with how I can us it!

Work in Progress Wednesday

This is my block for June.  I have been playing with the shibori ribbon at the bottom.  It is a bit fiddly to work with it.  There is definitely a learning curve.  It is a good thing I love to learn.  I think I am almost done with this but better get myself gear to finish as the end of the month is quickly approaching. Take a stitch Tuesday

The beaded buttonhole stitch is quite simple and deserves more exploration.  I am quite comfortable with the buttonhole stitch so I dove right in and applied the beaded version to a seam on my crazy quilt, top photo.  I also wanted to try something slightly different so I tried the wheel buttonhole stitch with beads.  It will take some practice to get that one to be an even circle.  I will definitely be doing some more exploring with this stitch. Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the instructions.

Check out Laura's beautiful blog at  http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/   She is struggling with health issues but continues to keep a beautiful attitude.  My caring heart aches for her. My macro shot this week is more rust and peeling paint.  Maybe I should think of something else to post.  I am in desperate need of spending time with my camera!

Work in Progress

Two steps backward but one big step forward.  I wasn't happy with the beaded Vandyke stitch I had done on this piece so I picked it out.  I also wasn't happy with the beading done on the shibori ribbon so I picked that out.  I really don't like to pick out stitching.  I guess no one likes it.  Still I am glad that I did it. I added a ton of beads to the top seam.  It took a few hours but it was enjoyable.  I find the handwork relaxing. Here I tried the Bullion Vandyke stitch.  Instructions for it can be found at  http://pintangle.com/2014/06/10/116-and-117-beaded-vandyke-and-bullion-vandyke-stitch/ I don't think I have it right.  I don't like it well enough to persist in trying to get it right.  I can't see myself using it.  I also picked out the beaded Vandyke stitch I did last week.  I thought the beads were too big but I also just didn't like the way the stitch looks with beads.  I can see that I would use the regular Vandyke stitch but not the variations.

Color and texture and macro photography make me happy.  This image makes me happy!  The vibrant color is delicious! I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

This is my June CQ block.  I have a really good start on it.  I am hoping that means I can get it finished by the end of the month.  A feat I have not yet accomplished this year.  I have added a piece of shibori silk ribbon to the lower part.  It is something I have been seeing a lot on Pinterest lately.  I couldn't resist ordering some from  Flights of Fancy.  It is gorgeous but a little bit difficult to work with it.  Nevertheless I will persist and hopefully get it right. Take a stitch Tuesday

Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  shows how to do the beaded Vandyke stitch this week.  I have to admit that I didn't remember how to do the Vandyke stitch and had to go back and practice.  I showed it in the bottom photo as I really liked how it looked with the variegated thread.  The beaded stitch is in the top photo, obviously.  I think the bead I used is too large so I am not terribly happy with it.

Happier now

I added color to darken the lace on the right.  I used my Sharpie markers and I think it looks better now.  I think I can call my May CQ block finished.  I better get moving on my June block!

Of course you already know where this was taken.  The wrecking yard.  Can you guess what it is?    Again with the blue and rust color scheme.  It is a good one. I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

Playing with Kaleidoscope Kreator

Image
I think this looks pretty spectacular if I must say so myself.  I used a photo of a stained glass window and manipulated it in Kaleidoscope Kreator.  I must print this one out!

This block is closed to finished.  I received so many nice comments about the orange flowers that I decided to keep them.  To make them stand out less to me I added some more orange flowers sprinkled throughout. Now I am not liking the light colored lace on the right.  It seems too light to me so I might add more color to it.  Just not sure how at the moment. I have worked the long tail beaded chain stitch onto my bead journal for June.  I quite enjoyed doing it.  It is a simple but pretty stitch.  I think it works well here.  I will likely add some more to this piece.  You can find the instructions at  http://pintangle.com/

I enjoy the complimentary color scheme in this photo.   I think the rust is absolutely fabulous with the blue.  Tomorrow I am taking two of my auto wrecker macro photos to a local art festival.  I have printed them on canvas 20x16 inches.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/
