Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I am still working on my fabric book.  This page features some textured leaves.  It has inspired me and is making me think about doing a bigger piece that will feature leaves.  I am thinking about the forest floor.  That project will have to sit on the back burner though as I have enough on plate at the moment. Self Portrait

Not quite finished but a really good start here.  I think I would like to add a few more wisps of hair .  I actually like this a lot more than I thought I was going to.  We did this as a hands on workshop at our guild meeting this morning.

I almost captured the shimmer on this butterfly's wings.  Butterflies are like flying flowers.  Oh so pretty!  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

Crazy quilt block finished.

I have to say that I am rather pleased with the way this turned out.  I think Aunt Pat would be pleased too.  It was a challenge to work with so many prints so it taught me new things.

Work in Progress Wednesday

All of the embroidery is now completed.  I just have to stitch the bead journal into the center.  I hope it looks good once finished.  It feels good to be on track to finish before the end of the month! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Bead journal for January

Image
I will be doing four circular bead journals this year.  This is the first.  I included a vintage earring on this one and hope to include something vintage on the next three.  These bead journals will be going into the center of my crazy quilt projects for corresponding months.  They are not actually crazy quilts per se but vintage blocks I inherited.  This is the first time I have planned to include my bead journal into another project.

I am very pleased to say that this image been accepted into the show Flash.  It is ever so exciting that someone else likes me work well enough to include it in a show. I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

My bead journal so far

Image
The top photo show my bead journal where it will end up on my crazy quilt project.  I have place some beads on it to see if I like the way they look.  I took them off and stitched down some of them.  Bottom photos shows them stitched down and more placed on for further consideration.  It is coming along, I just need to take the next step.

I have added a lot of stitching to the seams so far.  It is getting close to finished.  I am pondering what I should do on the edge of these colorful fabrics.  Any suggestions?  The center will be my bead journal for the month.  I haven't made a lot of progress on that so far. Another fabric book page

Image
Technically this isn't fabric but paper.  I printed a kaleidoscope on it and then I added some beading and machine and hand stitching.  It will work well in my book.  It feels good to make some more progress.

Ah!  Bright and cheerful color does my soul good at this time of year.   This is a macro shot of an interesting glass ball.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

I think they are done

Image
I added machine stitching to the background.  I also added some lovely metallic threads to the wings.  Unfortunately, the stitching is kind of difficult to see.  I pushed myself out of my comfort zone with these wings and I am really glad that I did. I am wondering if pushing myself out of my comfort zone is going to theme for this year!  Today I listened to an interview with Vikki Pignatelli  http://www.vikkipignatelli.com/   It was quite inspiring.  It is the second program I listened to this week that was inspiring and challenging!

Angel wings

Image
There are a lot of layers to this piece so far.  I did a rubbing of angel wings in my journal and really liked the way they turned out.  So I made a color copy of them.  After that I adhered them to the background.  The background is paste paper I created.  I experimented with some fine mulberry as the base for the paste paper.  When decorating the paper I used foil underneath the mulberry paper and the paste/paint adhered them together.  I wasn't expecting that but do like it.  The wings with the paste paper was a bit to monotone and I wanted them to pop more.  I realize that I tend to work in cool colors and need to add warm colors to make things pop.  I added embossing powder and dimensional paint.  I am really starting to like the way it is developing.  Now to add some stitch!

I love it when things come together!  I joined the crazy quilt journal project   http://cqjp2015.blogspot.ca/  again this year.  Probably did that out of habit as I didn't really have an inspiration for the year.  I just popped over there to grab the link and see that there are a number of people who have the January blocks finished!!!  The idea came to me yesterday to pull out the blocks that I inherited from my husband's Aunt Pat.  Aunt Pat and I had a special relationship and I was honoured when her daughter asked me if I wanted Pat's stitching things.  I have been wanting to do something with these blocks ever since I received them.  Although technically they are not crazy quilt blocks I intend to treat them that way.  It will add part of me to them.  I also plan to do circular bead journal projects for the center.   I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Life has been busy!

Image
I am not sure how we are already almost a week into the new year and I haven't done a blog post.  Time seems to fly faster all the time! This is a color copy of a collage of a tree I did years ago.  I really like the tree!  I used Beryl Taylor's method to apply paper to fabric to create this.  I used a gelli printed fabric as the base.  The tissue paper on top has given it interesting texture.  I am not super happy with the way it looks right now though.  It is quite stiff so stitching into it might be too unpleasant.  So I am puzzling as to how I might save this.
