My version of Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
A while back I bought this orange silk thread with tiny sequins.  So pretty!  But I didn't really know how to use it so it sat waiting.  Then I remember learning the threaded herringbone stitch.  I figured this silk would work that.  I had too look up instructions for it as I didn't recall how to do it.  I found good instructions at  http://www.embroidery.rocksea.org/stitch/herringbone-stitch/threaded-herringbone-stitch/

It has been a while since I posted one of my rust photos.  Don't you just love the texture!  Later this week I will be hanging one of my rust photos at city hall for an art show.  Fun! Gettin Messy

Image
I have spent a lot of time this last couple of months preparing paperwork for a number of different shows.  It is very time consuming.  It is also rewarding once you are accepted but that doesn't always happen.  Anyway, I needed a play day.  I have done tons of experimenting on paper and fabric.  Not always are the experiments successful but they are too good to toss.  So I decided to take them further and see what happens.  I now have a rather large stack of paper and fabric that I feel is useful.  I better get busy creating something with them!

My bead journal for March is finished

Image
And it has been attached to the crazy quilt project for March.  I included an old rose earring on this piece.  It was my Mom's.  I remember lovingly sorting through her pretty earrings as a child.  It feels good to include it in my art.  I am excited to start on the next bead journal.  The stitching process is very soothing to my soul.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is the third block in a series of four.  This one is depicting the season of summer.  The bead journal in the center is truly a labor of love.  I spend many hours doing the beading.  I honestly didn't know that I had it in me.  Once I thought it was way too tedious but now I find it rather meditative to stitch on the beads.  I will post a close up of the beading tomorrow. I am longing for the warmth of spring.  I saw my first robin today and the calendar says it is spring but where is the warmth?  Poor little robin must be longing for some warmth too.  This daffodil warms my heart though.  So cheerful! A million French Knots

Image
This is a monoprint on watercolor paper.  I am adding French knots to it.  Wow it is going to take a while to fill in the snowflake.  It is a good thing that sometimes I like to do repetitive work that doesn't take a lot of brain power!

I have been missing Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I really enjoy learning new stitches.  I decided I could look around and find some other stitch tutorials.  Mary Corbet at  http://www.needlenthread.com/2012/02/stitch-play-chain-stitch-spider-daisy.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+needlenthread+(Needle%27nThread.com)&utm_content=Google+Reader   has some really good instructions.

Longing for spring and summer.  This photo cheers my soul.  So bright and vibrant.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

I have finished this piece

Image
I have worked on this one on and off for a while.  It has loads of stitching.  I actually removed a little of the stitching from the large circle in the lower left.  I think it is more interesting that way.  I am submitting this piece for a show tomorrow.  I would be very exciting to have it accepted.

Work in Progress Wednesday

My crazy quilt block for the month of March is taking shape.   I have about half of the seams stitched.  I have a bead journal ready to go into the center.  I am aiming for a summery feeling for this block.   I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Doing a happy dance

Today I received an email telling me I have been nominated for a KW Arts award in the Textile art/quilting category.  I am so very excited to have been nominated!  I have a ton of paperwork to do for the process but it should be fun.  I look forward to the ceremony in June.

I am not a gardener but I do love flowers.  It is so much fun for me to get out my macro lens and spend time photographing flowers up close and personal.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

Further experiments

Image
Since I have a lovely new sewing machine that has oodles of different stitches I thought I should try out some of them.  Stitching on a layer of paper with a couple layers of sheer fabric has a lot of potential.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have made a lot of progress on my March bead journal project.  I am SO enjoying the process!  This is the third of four round projects.  I have concentrated on creating a piece that has a summer feel to it.  Working with the hot colors at this time of year feels pretty good.  I have incorporated a vintage earring from my Mom, it is the red rose near the top.  There is not a lot to do to finish this. There is so much fun to be had with a macro lens.  I think this is simple but elegant. http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/
