Experiments

Image
It has been a while since I have had the time to play and experiment.  Well, at least with no expectation of taking it further.  I created this leaf with my Prismacolor pencil crayons on fabric.  I could add beads and/or stitching to it.  Or I could just file it away as an interesting experiment.  Ultimately, I enjoyed doing it and that is enough. Journal page

Image
I am working through a weekly journal prompt this year.  The prompt this week was believe in yourself.  This is something I am learning to do more and it feels good.  I used the Wonder Woman power pose on this page to tie in the word power.  Power is my word this year.  I plan to learn more about my power this year!     http://blog.luluart.com.au/2016/01/22/colour-me-positive-week-4/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
This is my experiment with the Arrowhead Stitch.  Thanks to Sharon B at  pintangle.com  for the instructions.  I have not done this stitch previously but once I started with it I found it simple to do.  I decided to experiment with it a bit.  I was hoping to get a spirograph type look.  I was somewhat successful.  I think further exploration is required.

Bead Journal progress

Image
This is my bead journal for January.  There is still a lot of stitching to do on it.  I am calling it Ocean Floor.  I am having so much fun with this piece! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Adult Coloring

Image
I started off coloring this design with colored pencils as I often do.  And just as often I find myself changing to markers to finish the coloring.  It is odd to me that it has taken me so long to figure out that I don't really like pencil crayons for coloring!  I still like to use them for adding shading though.  Mind you I did use pastel pencils to add the shading on this one.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This crazy quilt has languished for a couple of years now.  The twelve blocks have all been sewn together but those seams need embellishing.  It feels good to get at it.  I added the beaded fly stitches.  This is my largest crazy quilt to date.  It will feel really good to get it finished! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Well, the stitching this week definitely tried my patience.  The Twisted Chain stitch is familiar to me and I quite like it.  That prompted me to try something new with it.  I started with DMC Pearlescent Effects thread as I love all things sparkling.  Correction, not all things.  This thread is absolutely miserable with which to stitch.  Ugh.  However, I persisted and got one row stitched.  I had planned to do a second row with it mirroring the first row.  Since I was not happy with the DMC thread I decided to use a different thread, not sure of the brand.  I was stitching along with it when I made a mistake and had to pick it out.  Upon flipping to the back to do so I realized I had been stitching to another part of the quilt.  Ugh!!  After picking all of that out I decided to use a Kreinik thread as I wasn't overly thrilled with the one I had just used.  I wish I would have used a thicker Kreinik thread though.  I think this could look really good with equal weight threads.  O

Aw, rust and peeling paint!  I love getting up close with it.  I find the abstract imagery very pleasing.  It is the color and texture, two of my favorite things. I am Brave

Image
This is my journal page about being brave.  It is really hard to see the gold gel pen writing on the heart.  It simply says I am brave.  People have often commented that they think I am brave.  It puzzles me.  More often I think they mean foolhardy as I will dive into something without really thinking through the repercussions.  Nevertheless I am brave in some circumstances. The wings on this page are made with fabric so I feel comfortable linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Mixed Media Coloring Page

Image
This is one of my more simple designs.  I decided to really explore different media with this one.  I started with fluorescent highlighters then added chalk pastels for highlight and shadow.  I also used pencil crayons, metallic markers and gel pens.  Please show me what you do with it!

The start of my January Bead Journal

Image
The background I created with a lot of yarns and threads.  I added a metal piece that I embossed on a shell slice.  I also added alcohol inks to the metal for color.  I picked out the beads today so I better get stitching them! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Aw, it feels good to be participating in Take a Stitch Tuesday again.  Thanks to Sharon B. at  pintangle.com/  for posting the instructions for Interlaced Cable Chain Stitch.  It is good for my brain to learn new stitches.  I have done the cable chain stitch but never the interlaced part.  I unnecessarily complicated it by using to threads to do the lacing.   The two threads got a little snarled but I persisted.  I am continuing to work on handmade paper for these stitches.  That can make things a little difficult but I do like the way it looks.

Intentional Blur

Image
This technique has been around for a while.  I have always liked it.  I would like to experiment more with it.  This photo of poppies turned out kind of interesting which leads me to believe I could do more with the technique. Finished

Image
December Crazy Quilt block is finished.  At least for now.  There is room for improvement but I need this off my plate.  Sometimes I just have to call it good enough and move on. I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Coloring Page

Image
Another week, another coloring page.  I used permanent markers, including gold and silver, and pencil crayons.  The silver Sharpie shows up rather nicely.  I love the shading/blending you can get with pencil crayons but they certainly take more work than the markers.  Using both is a good compromise.  I would love to see how you color this image!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This year I plan to do experimental stitching.  I made a color copy of a piece that I really like and adhered it to fusible interfacing.  I have added stitch with  gold and silver threads by Kreinik.  I have also added gold and silver H20s watercolor paint.  I am liking how it is coming along! Gratitude Journal Page

Image
I have joined a journal challenge on Facebook.  I am really hoping that I can stick with it.  The journal challenges I joined last year were not so successful for me.  This page is done in a journal I created with leftover papers.  They already have color or writing on them but weren't good for much else.  It just adds to the layers.  Not too surprisingly there is a lot of metallic on this page.  I used dimensional paint to write the words.

I love color.  I love kaleidoscopes.  I am pretty pleased with the way this turned out. I am linking with http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/01/awakenings-through-my-lens-nr-23.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/
