Beading Progress

Image
I am making progress on my January bead journal.  I cannot figure out how to make the camera capture the correct colours.  These are way off.  Oh well.  I am loving the way this coming.  I have my doubts that I will get it finished by the end of the month.  I am leaving for Hawaii in a couple of days and I am not sure if I will take it with me.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal page

Image
The prompt for the month is words.  Is this vibrant enough?  I threw this page together quite quickly as I am not feeling all that great.  I used some sparkly tape to form the letters.  Love the sparkle!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I finished up my stitched butterfly.  I used my own hand dyed silk thread to stitch on to silk fabric.  This exists in a small silk book I created.  I am rethinking the book idea.  It is rather flimsy so I think I will cut out the pages and use the stitched pieces in something else.  Not exactly sure what at this moment but it will come to me. Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
I have used the buttonhole and the running stitch to form a cherry.  I am thinking I am going to do a sampler of stitches throughout this year.  It is definitely not a new idea but I have never done anything like this previously.   I am not sure that it totally fits with  Sharon B's  idea.   We will see where this takes me.

Slow stitching

Image
This is my January stitch a day progress.  The fabric is twice stenciled and now I am stitching silver thread to it.  I decided I would do the same six-inch square size as last year as they may all come together into one big project down the road.  However, I am thinking about stitching on one project now.  After seeing others do that for 2017 and their marvelous results I am wanting to try it.  I can always start that in February. Fabric Journal

Image
I had a hard time getting a decent picture of my fabric journal pages.  This is a good as it gets.  I have quite a collection of them and it is time they get put into book form.   There is still a bit of work to be done on some of them but that can be done before or after I put them into a book form.  Right now I am pondering whether I should do one big book or two smaller ones.  What do you think? Journal Page

Image
The prompt for all of January is words.  Having already done a page about my word for the year (sufficient) I wasn't quite sure what do with this prompt.  This month is busy for me so I am trying to make the most of my time.  Yesterday I installed some of my art at the Ayr Library as I am the Artist in Residence this year.  I talked with the co-ordinators about a number of things including having a small display of altered book pages.  That was fresh in my mind while thinking about my journal page this week.  Therefore my journal page is doing double duty this week.  I will use this page as part of my display.  I found the word light on this page and encircled it with the candle flame.

My bead journal for January is giving me a bit of a hard time.  I have a six inch square of wool felt, the colour in the photo is all wrong.  It is actually much more vibrant.  I have embroidery JOY and plan to bead the rest of the square.  I have been lacking inspiration for this.  Just this minute I looked over at one of my crazy quilts and inspiration hit me.  I think I know the direction to take with this.  Love it! My camera started malfunctioning in the fall.  It worked on and off and I was managing with it.  However, just before Christmas, it stopped working altogether.    I can't say that I was overly upset.  It was just the excuse I needed to buy the camera that I have been really wanting.  It was on sale for a good price but I decided to wait until after Christmas.  So glad I did as on Boxing Day there was an extra $75 off and a bonus $150 gift card.  So cool!  Not sure what I am going to use the gift card to buy.  So far I am loving my new Nikon D7200. Another finish

Image
It feels so good to have another quilt finished.  2017 was a good year for finishing pieces.  2018 is shaping up the same way!  This piece I stenciled with Shiva paint sticks.  I love the glimmer that they add.  I also adhered some acrylic gems.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Word for the year

Image
It has been a few years since I have chosen a word for the year.   I have decided on a word this year as I realize it is quite beneficial to me.  This year my word is sufficient.  I fully admit to having hoarding tendencies when it comes to my art and craft supplies.  I am not as bad as some but I do have more than the average bear.  To dig a little deeper I think the collecting of supplies helps me to feel like I am sufficient/enough.  I could blather on more about that but being a very private person don't feel this is the place. Definition of  sufficient 1 a   :  enough to meet the needs of a situation or a proposed end  sufficient  provisions for a month b   :  being a  sufficient condition 2 archaic   :  qualified ,  competent

Happy New Year!  I am excited about 2018!  Lots of good things are happening!  My mixed media self-portrait quilt is just about finished.  The only thing left that I want to do is to cover the back of this quilt with gold transfer foil.  Today I finished the 'tiara'.  It is made up of positive words, dichroic glass, sequins and gems.  This quilt is so outside of the box for me but I had a blast creating it.  Now I need to send the photo to  San Francisco School of Needlework and Design I am linking to http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ http://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.ca/
