I had a number of positive comments about the large pink beads I used so I decided to keep them. I did add some small purple beads which I think makes it more interesting. There isn't a ton of stitching on this piece so I may return to it and add more at some point. For now, it is done. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/
This fabric started out white. I stencilled it and then did a wash of lighter blue over it. I did some embroidery stitches with fusible thread and then adhered transfer foil to it. The experimenting was so fun! I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/
My April CQ block is finished. This is the last block needed to finish a quilt. It is going to look good when all the blocks are put together. It is always fun to have a crazy quilt finished but it is not my favourite part. I need to figure out what the rest of my blocks for this year will be. The top photo is my newest piece in my water series. The substrate is crumpled copy paper. I have added gesso, paint and ink. The paper is fairly durable but it did rip in a bit. I don't mind that at all. I also couched down some funky yarn. The bottom photo is my piece from last week. I added some stitching with a metallic thread. Finally finished. My New Zealand piece for the Ailsa Craig Quit and Fibre Festival feels very special to me. I used a piece of batik fabric that I purchased while in New Zealand. I depicted the mountains in my piece because my husband and I hiked a mountain while we there. Hiking a mountain was a bucket list item for me. I am so glad that I did and feel like I can persevere through anything after doing it. It was neither easy or fun. I ended up with 10 blisters on my feet and could barely hobble to the car at the end. But I DID IT! Sharon B shows us the Spanish Feather Stitch this week. I have never tried this stitch and wasn't overly successful with it. We were shown how to work it in a row but I wasn't really getting. I decided to do it as a single stitch.
I cut a 6 inch square from a cleanup cloth. The colour in the cloth became so rich after being used many times. I applied fibre paste and pressed a shell slice into it. I added a bit more colour with Inktense pencils. No stitching has been added yet as I am not totally sure that I will add stitch to it. I am definitely leaning towards it though. I started this piece last month as my bead journal project for the month but got distracted from it. I have resurrected it for my April bead journal project. It is coming along alright. I am not loving the big pink beads. I think they are too large and need to come off. Sharon B shows us the Buttonholed Cable Chain stitch this week. I love it and hope that I can remember to use it more often. I wish that I would have chosen two more contrasting threads for this. It works well on this crazy quilt block though.
I honestly don't know why I save the ends of threads. It almost seems crazy. I know I am not the only one that does it though so there is some comfort in that. I felt the need to experiment with them and created a sheet of 'fabric' with them. Interesting result but now what. Last week I was thinking about a stalled project and decided to try creating a leaf with this new 'fabric'. I love it. It is lacey and colourful, textural and sparkly. I think I have to make some more of these leaves for that project.
I have been wanting to start a new series ever since I did my water sinchie for the guild challenge. Water is already a prominent theme in my artwork but I feel the need to explore it even further. I am planning to keep it to the six inch square size and have cut up a bunch of fabric experiments to be the base. Some I have sewn together and plan to do more that way. Sorry, no words on this journal page. It is busy enough. The base for the page is a hand embroidered quilt block that I inherited. I love these quilt blocks that have been so lovingly stitched. I have quite a few of them and I am trying to figure out ways to use them. I can't see myself ever stitching them all together into a large quilt. Smaller projects make more sense to me.
This is the start of my crazy quilt block for April. It is mainly fabrics that I have created. It will work perfectly in the quilt that I posted about last week. Still lots of stitching to do but that is the fun part! I am linking to http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/
I enjoy having the time to participate in Sharon B's take a stitch Tuesday. I have stitched this week's Buttonhole wheel onto handmade paper. I have been stitching on handmade paper on and off for the last couple of years. My intention is to put these pages into a book form. I had kind of forgotten about this project and now that it is in my remembrance I am eager to get it finished.
