Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have added very simple stitches to this mixed media mandala.  I wouldn't mind adding more but just can't see where to do that.  I will call it finished for now.  I do reserve the right to return to if the inspiration strikes though. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Water

Oh, this doesn't look very interesting in the photograph.  I guess it is slightly overexposed.  I did this piece with different silks and the camera didn't capture the lovely sheen of the silk either.  No time to take another photograph.  The simple stitching was so relaxing.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Play Day

Image
My DIL (far left), Marianne and I have been talking about having a fun painting day for quite a while.  This past Saturday we were able to make it happen.  Oh, we had such fun.  My middle son, Jeremy joined in and is a very talented artist.  My granddaughter, Juniper is a budding artist and completely immersed herself in the experience.  I am happy with my piece even though it is quite different for me.   Miriam, a friend, also joined us. We all had a blast together.  We used spray bottles, water guns, fluid acrylic paints and glitter.  The weather was perfect for being messy outside.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Is it weird how relaxing I find working in circles?  The possibilities are endless and I can get lost in that.  I used a stencil on white fabric to create this one.  There are a couple of areas that did not turn out perfectly and that does not bother me.  I have used mainly surface treatments so far and I am looking forward to adding bead and stitch. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
It has been forever since I have participated in  Take a Stitch Tuesday  with Sharon B.  I didn't do anything particularly clever with the stitch this week.  I do love the Long Tail Chain stitch though.  I was glad to have it brought back to my remembrance.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Slow stitching on this piece is a delight.  I am actually finding it a bit difficult to not turn this into a project that gets worked on very purposefully.  There is no deadline so need to push myself but I do find myself wanting to make progress.  I love the way it is progressing and I am eager to see it finished but I will not rush it. Mandala update

Image
I took my mandala a little further and like it much better now.  Not so much white space.  I think it is time to stitch and add beads and possibly a layer of tulle (thanks Queeniepatch!). I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I have been working on a lot of mandalas the past couple of years.  I decided to do an altered book to house some of them.  This is the cover of that book.  I love combining altered books with stitching and beading.  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/

There is no such thing as a new idea. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. Mark Twain I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com

Mandala

Image
Gosh, there is a lot of white here.  I don't like a lot of white in my pieces.  I like the mandala I have created so far with just surface treatments.  I definitely want to take it further with stitch but what do with all that white?  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I do a dementia-friendly art program in a long term care facility every week.  This summer we created painted flower quilt blocks.  One of the volunteers there very generously put the quilt together for us.  It is finished!  Isn't it fabulous!  My seniors are so very proud of themselves.  This quilt will now be raffled.  I hope they raise a lot of money!  I definitely plan to buy tickets.  I want to win this so I can include it in my trunk shows. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have added some slow stitches to this piece.  I was showing my son my progress as he is home this weekend.  He commented that it has a storybook quality to it.  I love that!  I feel like I don't have the natural ability to do high realism.  I think with time I could develop that ability but I really don't care to do that.  Bright and colourful suits me just fine.  The stitching is so enjoyable.  When I have a short length of thread left on a needle I use it up on this piece. Water

Image
I pieced together three of my surface-treated fabrics.  I wrapped a pipe cleaner in some funky yarn and stitched it down.  I then added a bit of sparkle paint to infer water ripples.  Working on this series is good.  I used to think that working in a series was not the least bit interesting.  Odd how much I disagree with that thought now. Relaxing.  These pieces are so relaxing for me.  I love the way they turn out.!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Here is the start of my crazy quilt block for September.  I am so original!  I went with an autumnal theme!  Actually, it is rather different for me.  These are not the colours that I naturally gravitate to.  How fortunate for me that still have managed to collect fabrics in these colours!  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ http://www.esthersquiltblog.com/

Sunday Slow Stitching

Image
I have been stitching with some metallic threads to this piece.  I love all things shiny and sparkly.  They make me smile.  I recall quite a number of years ago a neighbour commenting that metallic is so garish.  How odd I thought that was but it left me feeling like there was something a bit wrong with me for liking something that is garish.  Of course, that is her opinion and she is entitled to it but it doesn't make me wrong.  I have come to learn that two people can have opposing opinions and both be right.  This piece is truly mixed-media.  Dyed coffee filter,  painted tracing paper, buttons and gems and the aforementioned metallic thread have come together.  I still plan to add more metallic thread because it makes me happy!
