Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This is a fun piece for me as it is all experimentation.  The background is a mandala that turned out rather PINK.  I am working at taming that.  I made a colour copy of one of my coffee filter mandalas. I reduced it to about half size and adhered it to fusible interfacing and applied it to the centre of this piece.  I like the way this is coming and plan to add beads and stitch. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have managed to get add some stitches to this piece.  Slow stitching indeed.  A few days ago I decided I simply must find more time to express myself with stitch.  I NEED to feel more productive.  Helping look after my almost three-year-old granddaughter is a privilege, joy, taxing and oh so much more.  I know it is special but it does not feel productive to me.  At least not art-wise.  I have gathered my stitching projects into one pile and committed to adding a little bit of stitching to each one of them every day if possible.  I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Still stitching on this one

Image
There is still a bit of room on this piece to add some stitching.  Not much mind you.  It is a bright and cheerful piece that gives me a lot of pleasure to stitching onto it.  I am in no rush to finish it as I don't really know its end purpose.  Does it have to have a purpose other than my pleasure of stitching? Work in Progress Wednesday

I love  Maggie Grey  and own many of her books.  Her mixed media approach to stitch is really inspiring.  I have drifted away from that for the last while and would like to return to it. Maggie posted a challenge on her blog and this is my start at that challenge.  I wanted to incorporate collage as I have been listening to  The Jealous Curator  podcast.  I have dabbled with collage over the years and feel like some of my textile work is a collage.  So this is a mandala collage with found poetry.  Stitch still needs to be added to it but I need to back it with fusible interfacing before I can start stitching.  I used black Brusho powder on a coffee filter for the base.  I love the way the black breaks out into different colours when wet. Mandala Meditation

Image
I am still loving doing my mandala meditations.  I have been posting one a day on Instagram @angelagrasse  This is one of my favourites.  I do love analogous colours.  I also push myself to use colour combinations that are analogous or even my favourite colours.  It is good to get out of the box.

Slow Stitching Sunday

This crazy piece became unearthed this week.  I decided to add more hand stitching to it.  I honestly have no idea where this one is going but I do want to keep working on it.  I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Bead Journal

Image
I have made further progress on my bead journal for April.  I am loving the way it is coming along.  I am tempted to stop at this point.  I will at least take a break from it for a few days. I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

So well said

A MESSAGE FROM YAYOI KUSAMA TO THE WHOLE WORLD Though it glistens just out of reach, I continue to pray for hope to shine through Its glimmer lighting our way This long awaited great cosmic glow Now that we find ourselves on the dark side of the world The gods will be there to strengthen the hope we have spread throughout the universe For those left behind, each person’s story and that of their loved ones It is time to seek a hymn of love for our souls In the midst of this historic menace, a brief burst of light points to the future Let us joyfully sing this song of a splendid future Let’s go Embraced in deep love and the efforts of people all over the world Now is the time to overcome, to bring peace We gathered for love and I hope to fulfill that desire The time has come to fight and overcome our unhappiness To COVID-19 that stands in our way I say Disappear from this earth We shall fight We shall fight this terrible monster Now is the time for people al

This slow stitching piece is in the latest Stich magazine.  I can't wait to see it.  I know I could purchase a digital copy but I would prefer a physical copy.  I am wondering if I will ever be able to go to a book store to get a copy.  Mostly I enjoy being able to stay home and create but this confinement is starting to feel a bit much! I heart Macro

My kaleidoscope photos make me happy and we need extra cheer at this time.  My photos were supposed to be beaming from The Cube atop our City Hall this month.  Obviously, that isn't happening with everything shut down.  I assumed my photos would be bumped from the line-up but found out that is not the case.  They plan to have my photos up as soon as things are open again.  Yay!  Hopefully, that happens soon! Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I am still adding stitches to my colourful garden.  It is a bright and cheerful piece on which to work.  I am quite enjoying myself.  Yesterday, I learned how to do do a dimensional leaf stitch.  See the lower photo about in the centre.  It is a cool stitch and I look forward to doing more of it. April Bead Journal

The sheer fabric is pretty but a little unpleasant to use. I ended up putting Fray Check on it and that helped.  Of course, then you could see the Fray Check on the edge so I needed to solve that problem.  I decided to use the wooden butterfly buttons I had ordered last year.  I am quite pleased with the way that looks.  Still, there is lots more to do. A Collaboration

Image
My granddaughter had some painting fun with a big piece of paper and glitter paints.  It was so I pretty I had to figure out something to do with it.  I decided to create an 8 page book.  Simple instructions can be found here  http://plasticmasters.blogspot.com I am wanting to add embellishments and found poetry.  I am debating about how to do that.  I was thinking about doing something like the last photo but feel it looks too vintage and doesn't go with the bright and cheerful background.  I am linking to http://mybijoulifeonline.com

I am really enjoying stitching on this.  Right now I am trying to place flowers where stitching is needed to finish attaching the lace.  When I sewed the lace on by machine I was only making sure to catch one edge.  I knew that there would be a lot of embroidery on this piece and that would firmly attach the lace.  It really doesn't look like much yet but I know it will all come together. Take a StitchTuesday

Image
I love the  Wheel Cup stitch  that Sharon B encourages us to try this week.  I have done it numerous times but wanted to try it on some handmade paper. I used a white sparkly thread that unfortunately doesn't show up very well.  I also used some new thread that I purchased.  It is a perle cotton by Sue Spargo and I love it.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
This is my second piece from the Textile.org Facebook challenge.  Cas Holmes was the challenge leader this week and asked us to make a small fabric collage that was inspired by something around our home.  My husband had bought a bouquet of flowers when he was getting us groceries so I used that for my inspiration.  It was fun to go through my bits and pieces and use them up.  I honestly wonder why I hang on to such small bits sometimes but then they do come in handy.  I posted about this piece earlier in the week and didn't feel like it was quite done.  I decided to add some found poetry to it and feel that is now complete.  I have loads of old book pages kicking around because I alter books.  I really enjoy cutting out words and phrases and putting them together to make a 'poem'. March Bead Journal

Image
I have been thinking it would be fun to teach a workshop on mandala making.  I enjoy making them so much and would love to share that with more people.  The beading is repetitive and peaceful. So is the mark-making when doing them on paper.  This bead journal isn't overly intricate but I still love it. I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Mandala Meditation

Image
My daily mandala meditation is a little different today.  I started with a graph from  https://incompetech.com/graphpaper/ .  There is a lot to choose from at that link so check it out if you are interested.  The mandala I created is probably a little more simple than what I usually do.  I admit I have not used that graph paper previously so there is a learning curve.  Still, it was relaxing and fun.  I am linking to http://mybijoulifeonline.com

The latest challenge from the textile group on Facebook is to do a little collage.  It was fun to go through my scraps and find the right bits and pieces.  We were to be inspired by something in our home.  Since I have a beautiful bouquet of flowers that was the obvious place to start.  I love the way this is coming along and feel like it is quite close to finished.  I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/
