Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I am still doing my little stitched collages.  Combining fabric, paper and stitch really makes me happy.  I was excited to find a way to use this tiny carpet that a friend gifted me.  She always brings back the most enticing things from her travels.  I turned it into a pocket to hold another small collage and the label from the package that it was in.  I want to remember everything about where this tiny carpet came from.  I am still not sure how I will bind all these pages into a fabric book.  I will continue to do the collages and trust that the right way to bind them will come to me. Journal Cover

Image
I made some progress on this journal cover this week.  I am having so much fun adding beads to this.  I think it is getting pretty close to finished but  I do want to add more beads.  Why stop having fun! I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am completely in love with my bead journal for May.  It is a kaleidoscope/mandala hybrid, mixed media and beaded piece of beauty.  At least it is to me and that is enough.  The weather has been cooperating and I have been able to stitch on this outside.  Oh, that feels so good.  The natural light for beading is also lovely. Our weather has been beautifully warm and sunny.  It takes me back to our trip to Mexico where we saw the most magnificent street art.  This turtle is stunning.  It kind of makes me think of a crazy quilt. I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/

Bead Journal

I am really enjoying this one.  It is quite close to being finished. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I was able to sit outside to stitch.  OH!  That felt so good.  It truly is one of my favourite things to do. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Stitched Journal Cover

Image
So fun to go through my stash of fabrics I have collected to create this journal cover.  So much sparkliness!  These have been stitched down to a base and are now ready for more embellishment.  Yes, I said more!  I want this cover to say jewel box.  I am well on my way to that goal.  I find myself starting new projects at this time.  At the beginning of the year, which feels like mere days ago I was happily working at finishing up projects.  There are still plenty to finish up but not the inclination or inspiration.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

A little collage journal

Image
These little collages are so fun to make.  I had made this set a while ago, top photo.  I decided to bind them together and add collage to the backside, bottom photo.  Just a little concertina book full of vintage goodies and found word poetry. I am linking to http://minialbummakers.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

I am disappointed with my lack of progress on this one.  I had great intentions but they did not materialize.  I think today is going to be a day for lazing about with my stitching.  It isn't that I haven't been creating.  I am still posting a mandala a day on Instagram.  That is very calming/meditative for me.  I have also been doing some work on journals.  I will have to post those soon.  My word banner installation has also been a fun project.  Every snippet of time has been put to good use. Putting some positivity out there

I have created some fun word banners and hung them in the tree in front of my house.  This has been a really fun project for me.  I have had a number of positive comments on it.  I have seen people walking by and smiling as they read the words.  I am hoping this is as uplifting for the viewers as it has been for me creating it.

Fabric/Paper Collage

Vintage isn't my typical style/colour palette but I do like it.  I am having a lot of fun with these little collages and look forward to putting them all together into some sort of book.  These little collages have got only one positive comment.  Thank you, Collete, for your affirming words! I don't make my art for other people so positive comments are not totally necessary.  However, right now maybe I am feeling more vulnerable or less confident, just not quite myself.  Understandable for sure.  Anyway, the one positive comment has gone a long way to strengthening my resolve to continue down this collage path.  It really only matters that I like them. Work in Progress Wednesday

Okay, I admit I may have a problem.  I just can't stop thinking kaleidoscopes and mandalas.  This is the start of my next beaded piece.  Obviously, no beads as yet.  I have some really awesome cleanup clothes that I have been wanting to use so that is the base.  I love the serendipity of the colours on the cleanup cloth.  I have adhered some silver leaf.  Next, I will add stitching and beads.  I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

I am so happy pleased with the way this mandala is progressing.  I was able to get a fair amount of beading done on it this week.  The pink is being knocked back by the beads and that is a good thing.  I can't wait to add more colour. I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Small Collage

Image
Okay, these mixed-media collages are a lot of fun to create.  I was going through some random bits and the green/gold silk scrap had a gold star sitting on top it.  It spoke to me and was the start of this collage.  The most fun part for me is picking out the words to create found poetry.  I think this will be a great addition to my fabric book. I posted about this crazy quilt a little while back.  I am happy to say that it is published in the Summer Issue of Crazy Quilt Quarterly.  It is always an honour to have my work accepted for publication.  A little validation goes a long way!  You can purchase a copy at https://www.magcloud.com/user/kitty-and-me I am linking to https://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://www.quiltfabrication.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

I am so enjoying the stitching on this one.  I am trying to be more purposeful about my stitching.  Each time I intend to stitch I get out a different collection of threads.  I have an AMAZING collection.  It gives me so much pleasure to look at the beautiful threads and then be intentional about using them.  So much texture and colour!  Joy! Fabric/paper collage

Image
A few weeks ago I did an online collage challenge.  I quite enjoyed it and have been wanting to do some more.  Combining fabric, thread and paper is a lot of fun.  I felt the need to trap a butterfly under thread.  This week has been tough.  I kind of hit a wall.  I know that being trapped at home is not the end of the world so my found word poetry on this piece has a positive outlook.  I simply won't let myself go down a dark hole but I do need to acknowledge my feelings.  I am leaning towards doing a collage a week and putting them all together into a fabric book.
