Work in Progress/completed

Image
Last week was a good week!  The St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Festival was a success.  This is the Grand Guild of Fibre Artist's 'sinchie' (easily created 6-inch block)display.  We had so many wonderful comments about it.  I had a lot of participating in this challenge.  I hope the guild does something similar next year. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
This is my  Breton Stitch  done on handmade paper.   Sharon B  showed us this stitch back in March 2013 and it has been that long since I have tried.  I really do wish that stitches would stick in my head!  I think it looks super interesting done in a circle.

There is so much beauty to be found in a flower.  It is so fun for me to find it.  Such a lovely way to spend one's time.  My macro lens has opened up a whole new world to me. I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca

Altered Book Escape

Image
This is my altered book entitled Escape.  I created it last year and it was accepted into the show Transformations in Georgetown.  I was extremely disappointed in the way the book was displayed there.  I can understand that the curator was a bit intimidated to extend the pages.  But extended they needed to be!  Anyway, I have this book on display at the St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Festival.  There is a lot of fibre in this book.  The cover (which you cannot see) is a quilted butterfly.  It was great to be able to extend all the pages since I had enough space to do so. Journal page #20

Image
'Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do.' is the quote I used this week.  It has more meaning to me than the quote that was sent.   The quote that was sent was  'Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.'   That may be well true but it didn't particularly inspire me.  Maybe, because I think I am a mostly honest person, not that I haven't ever been less than honest!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I finally got started on my bead journal for May.  The substrate is a painted coffee filter adhered to fusible interfacing.  There is still a lot to do and I am not sure if I will get this completed by the end of May.  May is such a busy month! The Grand Guild of Fibre Artists has a marvelous display at the St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Festival.  Yesterday was the first day of the show.  I wasn't there but I have heard that our sinchie display is a big success.  I will have to remember to get a photo before it comes down! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B. shows us the  Woven Cross Stitch  this week.  I tried it with silk ribbon.  It looks okay, how bad can anything be when done with silk ribbon!

Painted Silk

Image
Oh, silk is so luscious!  I have painted some silk fat quarters to sell in St. Jacobs next week.  The St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Festival is such a fun and busy time!  I have lots of bits and pieces to sell.  The Grand Guild of Fibre Artists will have a fabulous display at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church.  Come and visit us! Journal Prompt #19

Image
The quote this week was 'Get up an hour early to live an hour more.'  It will be no surprise to anyone that knows me that I did not use this quote for my journal page.  I admit that when I do get up early I get more done.  However, I believe I am a productive person and more isn't always better. I went with the quote 'Allow your light and vision to shine.'  I  am learning to do that more and more. For this page, I used a color copy of a quilt block I created years ago. The piecing is far from accurate yet I still think it is beautiful.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
It is a little difficult to see but there is a tree outline on this block.  It is the same tree shape that I have used in the past.  Working in a series never used to appeal to me.  You would think that all the french knots I used to fill in this tree shape last month would deter me from doing another.  Nope!  I am having so much fun with this shape and will definitely be doing more.   This is my stitch a day project for May.  I am using only silk ribbon this time. Here is my Beaded Oyster Stitch .  I think it worked quite well to add to my crazy quilt journal project.  Thank you, Sharon B  for the excellent instructions.

Last six inch square for the guild challenge

Image
Our guild has really enjoyed working on these six-inch blocks (sinchies).  I took a mixed media approach to mine and have really had fun.  Tuesday the guild will meet to put together a display of all our pieces.  We plan to adhere them temporarily to a large piece of black fabric that will hang at the St. Jacob's Quilt and Fibre Festival.  I am pondering what I will do with mine once the display comes down. Journal Prompt Week 18

Image
The beautiful thing about life is you can always change, grow and get better.  You aren’t defined by your past.  You aren’t your mistakes.  Such a great idea.  I like to think that it is true.  I hope that even when I am very old I am still growing and getting better!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Oh, I am having fun with this one!  I have used some of my hand painted silks as the base of this crazy quilt project for May.  This block is bigger than my usual and therefore may take me longer to complete.  I may have to stretch it into a two month project.  I try to stay on top of the commitments I have made but I don't want to rush this one.  There is still a lot to do. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I am so glad that I always leave a comment on  Sharon B's  blog when I do a TAST.  I really had no recollection of doing the  Interlaced Up and Down Buttonhole stitch .  I stitched it onto a substrate of painted tissue paper adhered to felt.  My comment at the time was that I need more practice to make this stitch look good.  I have not practiced it at all.  However, I don't mind how this stitch looks now.  It isn't nearly as nice and neat as Sharon's.  That's okay as it is interesting.  I was just showing this piece to a friend a few weeks ago.  She absolutely loves it.  She is such a dear friend and always so encouraging to me.  I plan to use this piece in a quilted book.  That will be another one for my trunk show.

Making Progress

Image
I will persevere.  I will get this little quilt finished.  I will make it look good!  I created some 'rocks' with tyvek and stitched a few of them onto this quilt.  I am pleased with the placement on the lower part.  The right side of the waterfalls isn't quite right.  I think the rocks need to be smaller and possibly lighter in color and the placement isn't quite right.  Good thing they are not stitched down.  I can make this work! Journal Prompt #17

Image
The quote this week is 'Old ways will not open new doors.'  It is a good quote.  It reminds me of the Einstein's definition of insanity.   Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  However, I believe. that one needs to persevere and stick to it when it comes to being creative. Pansies are in bloom right now and they are one of my favorite flowers.  I had fun creating this page filling pansy.

Work in Progress Wednesday

The sinchie challenge with my fibre guild is blue and white for May.  The silver transfer foil I used is close enough to white in my books.  I am adding some hand stitching with white and blue embroidery floss.  All of our sinchies will be on display at the St. Jacobs Quilt and Fibre Festival in a few weeks.  It should be a really interesting display! Stitch a day

Image
For the month of April, I stitched french knots.  Oh, so many french knots!  Not sure why I thought that was a good idea.  I do like the way my little tree turned out so it was worth it.  I should have counted how many french knots I stitched while stitching them as it would be interesting to know.  Not interesting enough for me to go back and count them now though.

Looking through my photos this morning this one made my heart skip a beat.  The soft blur is so dreamy.  It speaks to me of a Georgia O'Keefe painting.  There is a display of her paintings at the Art Gallery of Ontario right now.  I really must make plans to get there.
