Mandala Monday

Image
This is a mixed-media mandala to be sure.  The circle base was painted with acrylic paint.  I then added a doily that was painted with watercolour.  Next, a kirigami paper cut with some glitter added to it.  Finally, a die cut was added.  Creating mandalas this way isn't quite as meditative for me.  Possibly because there isn't the repetition that is involved in the drawn/painted mandalas.  I still like it and enjoy creating in this way.  I am so grateful I can be creative in multiple ways. Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
This floofy book page is feeling like a bit of a disjointed mess to me.  These pages are meant to be slow stitching fun.  And they are, for sure.  But when I am not liking the way a page looks then what?  Do I call it finished and move on?  I sort of want to do that but I hate not finishing something.  It doesn't feel finished if I don't like it!   I can wait until I stitch it into the scroll and then add to it.  I can put it to the bottom of the pile and revisit it at some point.  Both of those options are delaying a decision.  Sometimes that is what needs to be done.  I am okay with that.  There are other things that can I do in the meantime.  What a delight to have so many lovely stitching projects! I like silk.  It feels SO good!  When we were in Lake Como I bought this beautiful silk scarf.  My generous hubby didn't bat an eye at the ridiculous price.  Buying an Italian silk scarf in Italy was on my to-do list.  It will last for years and I will cherish and enjoy it.  No regrets. I had wanted to purchase some silk for stitching but we didn't make it to any fabric stores while there.  I was disappointed but I am not one to sulk about such things.  I certainly wouldn't let it ruin a good vacation!  I like to shop at thrift stores.  You just never know what treasure you might find.  To my delight, I found this a couple of weeks ago. Yards of gorgeous silk.  Illuminated letters like we saw in a church in Sienna.  Colours that remind me of Florence.  Utterly perfect.  There is enough to make me a scarf and have some for an art project.  All for the mere price of $4.  Happy dance! Work in Progress Wednesday

I think this piece is finished now.  It doesn't look remarkably different from the last time I posted about it.  I have stitched down some of the folds so it isn't so poofy.  I think it is an interesting piece and I enjoyed working on it.  I don't know where it is going to live though.  It could eventually become a box or book cover I suppose.  It is okay with me if it sits quietly waiting for the right thing.

Slow Stitching Sunday

This is my little ocean scene stitched on burlap with lots of interesting yarns.  I worked on this while my granddaughter worked on hers. I had such a lovely time with my granddaughter this week.  She is six now and I felt she was ready for a stitching project.  She absolutely loved it.  A new stitcher has been added to this world! Here she is with her piece.  She stitched for hours.  Amazing.  Her attention span is extremely long!  She and I stitched while on our deck.  The weather was perfect.  I hope we have many more days of pleasantly stitching and chatting together.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

Lee Anna  as always has some interesting questions for us. do you like to attend State/County Fairs? tell us what kinds of things you like to do there? I went to a sunflower festival last summer.  There were vendors and some animals.  I went with my son and his family.  My granddaughter enjoyed the kiddie train ride.  It was a pleasant afternoon.  I have heard that there is a lavender festival somewhere not too far away.  Maybe I will be able to get to it this summer. There was a wool festival not far from here that I enjoyed going to for a few years.  There were always interesting rovings and yarns to purchase. I went to the Paris, Ontario fall fair years ago to see my DIL ride in the horse competition.  It was exciting to see her do her thing!   There used to be a huge creative festival in Toronto that I loved going to.  There were so many interesting supplies.  Things that I couldn't find in my own town.  With the ...

Aw, my floofy book pages give me so much pleasure.  It would be easy to keep going and going on every single page.  I have to know when to stop!  I am eager to stitch them all together into a scroll too.  I don't want this project to go on forever but I also do want to keep playing with them.   I actually stitched together some pieces and created another scroll.  I am trying to figure out how to get a photograph of something so long and skinny.  Maybe I could hang it outside on my clothesline to get a photo.  I have thought of a number of other scroll ideas too.  I can just picture a solo show of them!  Wouldn't that be fun!
