Beyond Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge

Image
The Beyond TAST challenge is to experiment with layering stitches.   The idea of layering a stitch really appealed to me.  If I had been really clever I would have chosen a stitch for which I needed practice.  Also, I would have chosen a simpler shape or at least placed this shape in the centre.  Still, I really enjoyed doing this and may need to try again.

The Circle My Favorite Shape

I learned a new technique to make mandalas.  Using a permanent metallic marker acts as a resist.  You get a batik feel using this technique.  I am having so much fun with it!  I have been making at least one per day this week.  They look fabulous and I definitely want to take them further.  Even though they are made with coffee filters the paper is very durable and will take some stitch. Work in Progress Wednesday

There is only a little over a month left of my artist in residency with the Ayr Library.  I have completely enjoyed doing this and am now focusing on getting the altered book complete.  The cover is going to depict Watson Pond which is in Ayr.  Pictured above is what I am planning to use for the water.  I had a lot of fun creating it.  One of my fibre guild friends shared a piece of interestingly textured stained glass with me.  I used it to do a rubbing with crayons onto mulberry paper.  I then adhered a piece of sheer blue fabric to it with glass beads gel (a medium by Liquitex).  I love the way it looks! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Sharon B  has us doing the French Knot this week. I think I have done a million French Knots over the years!  For a long time, I just didn't get how to do a French Knot properly.  My sister, Nancy is a very accomplished needlewoman and it was her instruction that clicked in my brain.  I did this tree last year by the end of it I was pretty tired of the French Knot!

Beading

Last week I was inspired by Norma at  http://notesfromnorma.blogspot.ca/   She submitted suns to the CBS Sunday Morning show and they put them on air.  I enjoy watching that show and had been thinking about sending some of my sun images.  So fresh with the inspiration I whipped up this beaded sun.  I have submitted it to CBS and will wait to hear back from them but I understand it can take months.
