I heart Photography

There is so much beauty in this world.  I am so grateful I have a good camera with which to capture some of it. I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://floralfridayfoto.blogspot.com/ http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I am going to try a whole cloth crazy quilt again.  The gorgeous silk I tried with my first one was just too flimsy.   I have gone to the opposite end of the spectrum with this one.  I am using some sturdy black wool.  I have basted on a small mandala.  I am excited to start embroidering the 'seams'.   It is my birthday this week and I ordered some beautiful threads to celebrate.  I deserve a little treat to brighten my spirits.  Lockdown is really getting old.  I think I will wait until the threads arrive so I can use them on this piece. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I was just thinking it was time to do another stitched mandala and this fabric was on my table.  I had cut a butterfly from it and not put it away.  There is already a mandala stencilled on it so it is perfect.  I am pretty happy with the way the gleam of the transfer foil shows.  It does make it a bit difficult to see the mandala so beading is definitely in order.

Slow Stitching Sunday

This photo is slightly overexposed so the colours are a bit washed out.  It is really hard to capture the shimmer of the third butterfly I have added.  I used fabric that I embellished with transfer foil and it looks ever so pretty if I must say so myself!  I also added some embroidery in the lower middle area.  I am enjoying working on this piece again even though I didn't make a lot of progress. Journal Cover

Image
Rarely have I filled a journal so quickly.  Spending so much time in lockdown I filled one journal in six months.  I was thinking I should add a cover to it to make it more interesting.  It seemed appropriate to use a collection of ribbon that a friend gifted to me.  The ribbons arrived at approximately the same time as I started this journal.  The ribbons are so bright and funky!  Love it!  I have woven them together and now am adding some stitching to hold it all together.   I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I think this journal page for Farley is finished.  The woven sari silk background is so pretty!  I must use this idea again.  Oh, just thought of how I want to use it.  Ideas are constantly bouncing around my brain.  Isn't creativity amazing!

Experimentation

Image
My sister, Nancy and I have started working through Textile Translations: Mixed Media by Maggie Grey. Pictured above is Nancy's work.  Neither of us has all the exact materials that are used in the book.  Substitutions are just another form of experimentation and we can only learn from them.   The two pieces above are my experiments using paper, gesso, salt and paint.  I think we both achieved some interesting texture.  I am not overly excited with my two pieces.  Whether they get turned into anything further is still a question mark.  The top piece is very stiff and it would not be enjoyable to stitch into it.  The bottom piece is not so stiff and it would be okay to stitch into it. We will finish the first chapter in two weeks and I will share our results then.
