Slow Stitching Sunday

I have added some beading to this mandala and feel like it is finished now.  This is the last hooped mandala for my show.  It feels really good to have completed 65 stitched mandalas and I think/hope my show is beautiful.  I still have two other mandalas to work on that are in two different collaborative pieces. I have three collaborative pieces for the show.  One with my family, one with the seniors I teach and one with my granddaughter's kindergarten class.   The family one is finished.  I am resisting the temptation to clean up the messy bits that were done by the littles.  It is an accurate depiction of all the ages that contributed to it.  The mandala is stitched on that piece.  All of the circles/spots have been painted on the piece by my seniors.  I am still working on the mandala part of that collaboration.  The collaboration with the kindergarteners hasn't taken place yet.  I will be going to the class on No...

I am joining  LeeAnna  and the gang again for an I like Thursday post.  This week the prompt is  what is your favorite Halloween candy? Did you have different favorites as a kid than now? What was your favorite one to see put in your trick or treat bag??? Let's remember how fun it was to get candy... It was fun to get candy as a kid.  It was such a big treat.  I also remember when my kids were young we would go to Walmart the day after Halloween.  We would buy up all their favourites at half price.  So much sugar!  One of my sons would have all his candy gone in a few days.  Another son would have it for a couple of weeks.  And for another son, we would end up throwing out some of his candy probably after Christmas.  Interesting how different they are/were. I rarely eat candy anymore after watching a documentary about sugar.  It is SO bad for you and that takes all the joy out of eating candy.  Well, I do cave when it...

Mandala Monday

I love the shimmer and shine of this mandala.  Paint, paper, glitter and markers were used to create this one.  The calming colours of blue and green really make this one feel meditative.  I find it so wonderful that creating a mandala and looking at a mandala can be so peaceful and soothing.  Couldn't we all use a bit more of that? Slow Stitching Sunday

My word for October is believe.  I did some free motion stitching with my machine and wrote the word believe three times.  My skills with free motion stitching are non-existent.  However, I kind of like the way it turned out.  The stitching wasn't very noticeable though so added some Inktense paint to make one word stand out a bit more.  I added some buttons, beads and doodads and a heart I painted.  One more page in my word of the month fabric journal is finished.   This journal when finished will have twelve powerful/meaningful words.  Figuring out a different way to stitch each word has been a challenge.  I  like challenging myself to learn new things and try new things.  I hope I never stop! Well, LeeAnna  came up with some good prompts for this week's I Like post.   what is your go to snack food? Is there a particular chip you like? (what is it you like about it) Oh my gosh, I love the chips pictured above!  I love hot and spicy food and chips especially!  I prefer savoury snacks over sweet.  Sweet is for dessert and not a snack in my mind. veggies? comfort snacks? chex mix? leftover pizza? if you're stuck on a project, and want a break do you go to a snack food for soothing? Or if you're nervous do you not eat? Another favourite snack is veggies with hummus.  I found a hummus with olives and it is delicious.  I do snack when I am hungry or frustrated.  I especially like crunchy snacks when I feel frustrated.  I absolutely do not eat when I am nervous.   Another thing I like is collaborations.  I have done an art collaboration with my family and a group of seniors.  These pieces will hang in my upcoming ...

Mandala Monday

My mixed media/collage mandalas aren't quite as intricate as my drawn and painted mandalas.  Still, they are a pleasure to create.  I find my inner critic is saying no one is going to be impressed with them.  That is a recurring theme of my inner critic.  I like to think that the opinion of others doesn't really matter to me.  But to be truthful sometimes it does.  Who doesn't love to get a compliment once in a while?   This mandala started with a kirigami paper cut for the main motif.  I used paint and glitter for the background.  I added metallic ink and faux gems.  I am not sure what other details to add at this point.  Maybe it is finished as it is.

Stitched mandala 64!  It is very close to finished and will be the last hooped mandala for my solo show.  I manipulated a photo and then printed it onto silk.  I have added some stitching but still want to add some beads.  This will not be the last mandala I create but it is the last one for the show.   The show will be installed on December 9 and will be up until the end of January.  There is a possibility of having an opening reception and that is exciting.  I still have two installations to work on for the show.  A great deal of the work for those is finished.  I am feeling pretty confident about it all!
