Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have been creating a fabric book with the theme of leaves.  The pages are fabric with mixed media, bottom photo.  Both sides of the fabric are covered.  I didn't really think that through as that makes stitching on them pretty much impossible.  That's okay, as I am good at problem-solving.   The leaves pictured above will work perfectly for this project.  Most of them are machine stitched but there is also some hand stitching.  I will be adding more to the collection.  All the stitching will be done and then the leaves will be glued to the pages.  I also need to figure out how to bind all the pages together!  Challenges, challenges! The mixed media pages still require some work as well.  Some of the mediums are rather difficult.  I don't want them o remain white and they aren't taking paints and inks very well.  I guess I can place the leaves strategically over the white parts.  I will have to do some pla...

Women's Work

Image
This small quilt is a celebration and redemption of women's work.  Over the years I have collected many beautiful doilies and some quilts that were not so beautiful.  I hand-dyed the quilt and the doilies.  I have hand-stitched all the doilies onto the quilt using silver thread.  Now what?  I might add more silver thread stitching.  I might turn one of the doilies into a mandala.  I could do both.  Maybe another doily or two.  So many options I need to ponder.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

The prompts this week were about Thanksgiving since so many that participate in this I Like blog post are from the US.  Thanks to  LeeAnna  for hosting this and coming up with such great prompts.  I don't have much to add to the discussion in the way of Thanksgiving recipes and such.  I am rarely the one who hosts the holidays. So I will talk about how much I like doing art with a lovely group of seniors.  Today we worked on a collaboration of tessellations.  It truly was a collaboration and delightfully so.  There are so many varying abilities in this group.  I watched one sharp-as-a-tack participant help another who was struggling.  Actually, there were two such examples of this.  It really touched my heart to see these women be so generous and kind.  They were thrilled with their results and so am I.   I love taking the time to think about how good people can be.  There are a lot of small acts of kindnes...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Sometimes playing in my journal is the only work in progress that I have to share.  I bought some Moleskine journals from Costco. They have lined paper but it is very sturdy paper.  They were also a great price and not a lot of pages.  All those things work well for me.  I don't mind the lines because sometimes I want to write in my journals.  I also don't mind the lines when I am making my art because they help me to not be too precious about it.   On this page, I tried out some new paint.  I cleaned off a stencil and so on.  I decided to add a mixed-media mandala to it.  The substrate is like mylar and is quite flimsy.  I wasn't sure what I would do with it so it was just laying around.  Glueing it into my journal made the most sense. Mandala Monday

Image
I am a jump-in-and-try-it sort of person. I tried a dot mandala a while back but it didn't turn out great.  Maybe because I didn't look into what is the best kind of paint to use.  No worries, I enjoyed the process and the mandala isn't horrible.  I have since learned that you need to use fairly fluid paint to get good results.  That is what I did with the mandala pictured above.  I am much more pleased with this one.  It is not bad for my second try.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I have started adding motifs to this whole cloth crazy quilt.  I don't recall ever adding motifs to any of my crazy quilts in the past.  So this is a bit of a challenge for me.  I definitely enjoy a challenge and learning new things.  I am going to stay with subjects from nature.  So far none of them are finished.  Since it is snowing outside today I feel the need to add a snowflake or two.  It should be a relaxing afternoon of stitching and staying cosy.  The house was busy with children and grandchildren yesterday so a quiet day will feel good today! Thanks  LeeAnna  for suggesting this.  What about apple cider? are you all fans? do you make anything  special with it or like something at the store made with it?   Hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick is yummy.  But I rarely drink it.  My go to beverage is sparkling water.  It feels like a treat and doesn't have any calories so that works for me.  I would rather save my calories for really yummy food!  Giggles. I like the warm weather that we are having!  What a treat!  I stopped at a lovely park today on my way home and captured this flower.  So nice to see flowers still blooming.  This one is starting to fade but it is still beautiful to me. I am still liking my doggie day care business even though I had an extremely high maintenance client this past week.  This is my own business and I don't have to put up with such nonsense so I told her to find someone else.  I only watched her dog the once but ...
