Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This little mandala isn't exactly work in progress.  It has been finished for quite a while. I just wanted to promote my workshop teaching this.  It is March 29, 2-4 and the cost is a mere $25.00 which includes the supplies.  If you are in the area, join me.  It should be a fun afternoon.   Fibre Festival

Mandala Monday

I got some Nara synthetic paper for Christmas.  The 10-inch circles are perfect for my mandalas. This paper gave me the opportunity to explore using my alcohol inks to create a mandala.  So much fun!  The inks are free-flowing so not easy to control.  That is what I love about watercolours so I need to adopt the same attitude when working with alcohol inks.

Slow Stitching Sunday

This week I was going through some of my projects.  I painted, embroidered and beaded this piece a number of years ago.  I really like it and it was just languishing as the fun part was finished.  I need a new piece of art to hang in my dining room so I decided to make it this one.  I painted the background piece with Inktense and now I am quilting the two pieces together.   I am just now noticing that there is too much white on some of the edges.  I will finish the quilting and then add some colour to cover up the white.  I may just use crayons on pencil crayons so that I can be more controlled with the colour.  I do like the way this coming together though.  I think it will look good in my dining room I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

For February 16 2023 tell us about a time you knew someone was for you... in honor of Love month, I'm thinking a mate but it can be a best friend, or your dog/cat, etc. How did you know, what did they do or say that made you look again, this time knowing they were your person As mentioned last week I have a dear friend, Darlene who always sends me a Valentine's card.  We love to have tea together and chat so this card is appropriate.  Our time together flies by all too fast but at least we can get together on a monthly basis.  I am not totally sure how we became such fast friends for all these thirty years.  Probably it is because she is such a good and kind person.  I have never heard her say a bad word about anyone.  It is easy to feel safe with someone like Darlene.   I am not feeling tip top today so this is the best I can do.   Thanks  LeeAnna  for coming up with such great questions!

Mandala Monday

Oh, the passionate colours of Valentine's Day.  I seem to be thinking about Valentine's a lot this year.  That is not usual for me.  But everyone can enjoy a little more love in their life!  May we all feel loved and supported!

Slow Stitching Sunday

My clean-up cloth is becoming full of texture and colour.  Oh my gosh!  I am having so much fun with this!  Over the years I have saved the tiniest of scraps.  Beautiful silks that I can't bare to toss.  A piece of painted and burned felt that the dog ripped apart, lower left.  He made a very interesting shape.  Some hand-painted fabrics and interesting yarns have also been attached.   Interesting embroidery stitches have been added.  I am using some of my hand-dyed threads.  Yum! It is all coming together but there is still a lot to do.  I have started picking out beads to add but must resist stitching them on just yet.  This is a giddy playground for my soul.   When this is finished it will be attached to a box lid.  The box houses some collages I have made.  Well, I am still making them.  If you are really interested you can see some of the collages on Instagram.  @angelagrasse I am l...

Art Journal

Image
This journal spread was in response to a line in a poem I had read.  'Whenever the trees are crying aloud'  This was a mixed media playground.  I used a hand-cut stencil, mask, texture medium, watercolour paint, acrylic paint and a touch of glitter.   I love reading poetry and finding just one line that stands out to me.  I have purchased old poetry books just so I could cut them up for those lines.  Or the whole poem, I have done that too.  Art journals are all about the play but having a deeper meaning is a goal of mine.
