Princess Bubbles Creates

  I am pleased with the progress that I have made on the upcycling challenge.  This is one end of the scarf.  The other end is similar.  Not everything has been stitched down yet but I am getting there.  I am working on the bigger appliqué pieces first.  I will add more details once that is done.  I can't wait to get out the beads!

  I have mentioned how I create these mandalas in the past so I won't go into the details again.  However, I took it a bit further by printing with a toner-based printer.  I then ran the image through a laminator.  The image had a transfer foil sheet set on top of it and the laminator made the foil adhere to the toner.  It worked great.  I had seen it done somewhere so it's not an original idea. It worked great and I am so pleased.  Getting the hologram foil to show up properly in a photo is another thing.  My niece was here on the weekend and we had great fun playing with this idea.  She brought her laminator, as I don't have one.  Actually, I am going to pick up one later today that I found on Marketplace.  This is too fun of an idea!  I need to play with it more!

  Here is a portion of a scroll I have been working on.  There are some scrumptious silks in this scroll.   I love the jewel tones in it but I haven't found the right inspiration for it.  I started this scroll a year ago and have not made a lot of progress. I have only added minimally to it.  Other projects keep leaping ahead of it with inspiration.  Or projects with a deadline.  A deadline always motivates me! LeeAnna  has asked us do you remember dying easter eggs? did you do it with your mom, or the other kids,   did you have those crayons to pre mark them? what did your family do with them?  Did your family hide them for hunts? Any stories about hunts gone wrong or couldn't find all the eggs, etc I remember the Paas Easter Egg dyeing kits.  I remember the tabs fizzing when you put them in the vinegar.  I remember the neighbour across the street always gave us one of her very fancy dyed eggs.  I remember my MIL dyeing eggs with my sons and doing an egg hunt.  My sons are a fair bit older than their cousins on that side of the family.  That tradition went on for a very long time and once my boys were too old for it they would help their younger cousins.  I was so proud of them for the way they helped.  Progress has been made!  The planets have aligned and I have been able to move forward on my upcycling project for the Fashion History Museum.  I have the base of this shawl sewn together.  The appliqué pieces are pinned in place.  I mostly like the way it looks when lying flat.  I must wrap it around my shoulders and stand in front of the mirror to see if I still like it. This challenge is to use fabric purchased from the Fashion History Museum.  It is luxury fabrics that were donated to the museum.  Wool, cashmere/silk blend and some interesting textures.  I am enjoying playing with them!  We are allowed to add some of our own fabric but only 20%.  I added the bright blue silk in the centre.   I have a lot of embroidery and beading to add to this piece.  Well, it can only be 20%.  I plan to add that on the edges above the fringe.  We have until the end of May to get our pieces completed.  I will be w...

 I have finished another mandala in my watercolour journal.  I still need to paint the background of this one.  I have enjoyed giving myself a loose watercolour circle and then adding details with markers.   Such a relaxing way to pass the time.

  I have been working on this piece for many years.  I feel like it is finally finished.  I have completely enjoyed working on this piece.  I only use the last bits of thread that are on a needle.  I often have a bunch of needles like that on my desk.  When the pile gets big enough, I set to using up the thread on this piece.  I so enjoy this process. This is the second piece I have done like this.  It is so fun for me that I  have another one waiting in the wings.  I 'paint' the background with oil pastels.  They take a long time to dry, so I did one last year in anticipation of this one being finished.  Even still, I am sure that some oil pastel will come off on my hands when I start working on it, but it won't smudge noticeably.
