A while ago I was experimenting with oil pastels on fabric.  I created this cheerful little landscape but didn't know what else I would do with it.  Having finished my floral slow stitching piece I decided this would make an interesting base to stitch into.  I hand quilted on the black lines.  I have started using up some short bits of silk ribbon.  At this point, I think I will just stitch in the field areas but that may change as things progress.  There are no great plans other than to enjoy the stitching. Just surface treatments on this piece.  First I used a stencil.  I did not love all the white that remained so I added permanent markers and blended with rubbing alcohol.  That was definitely an improvement but I continued.  I added some silver/white dots with a pen and some glitter fabric paint.  These six-inch experiments are ever so interesting to me.  Will I take them further?  I almost always want to take things further but maybe I don't have to.  Maybe, I can just enjoy doing them and call that done. Coffee filter mandala/kaleidoscopes have endless possibilities.  I haven't counted how many of these I have created but I bet in the hundreds.  Coffee filters are cheap and very durable.  They are obviously not indestructible but they will take some stitching.  Markers and paint are not a problem at all.  There are many ways to take them further but do I have to?  What if I make them just for the pleasure of making?  Period, end of the sentence.

It has been a while since I have posted about this piece.  I have thoroughly enjoyed stitching on this project.  I haven't added a significant amount since I lasted posted about it but I do think that it is now finished.  At least the slow stitching part is finished.  I am debating as to whether I should use it as a book page in a large book I am thinking of making or have it be a separate piece on its own.  I am eager to start another slow stitching piece.  It is so relaxing. Well, you would have thought that since my dear husband was away on his annual guys' camping trip this week I would have been more productive.  My weekly experiment only got tackled this morning.  I love that my fabric base is still wrinkly.  It is hand-dyed and I think the wrinkles add to the water feel I want.  I did some wire coiling which I haven't done for quite a while.  Also adding some 'gem' stones.  Nothing is actually attached at this point so it could change a little but I do like where this going.
