Princess Bubbles Creates

I have been stitching with some metallic threads to this piece.  I love all things shiny and sparkly.  They make me smile.  I recall quite a number of years ago a neighbour commenting that metallic is so garish.  How odd I thought that was but it left me feeling like there was something a bit wrong with me for liking something that is garish.  Of course, that is her opinion and she is entitled to it but it doesn't make me wrong.  I have come to learn that two people can have opposing opinions and both be right.  This piece is truly mixed-media.  Dyed coffee filter,  painted tracing paper, buttons and gems and the aforementioned metallic thread have come together.  I still plan to add more metallic thread because it makes me happy! Does this look watery?  I am not totally sure but I do like it.  This piece is really textured.  I started with some gesso on fabric.  I then added a layer of paper towel that had lots of colour as I had used it to clean up.  There was lonely blob of green colour that stood out too much so I added more green ink.  I also added some shimmer with Pearl Ex.  Some stitching or beading could be interesting on this piece but I think it would be absolutely miserable to stitch through it. I have had a lovely quiet summer.  It has been restful.  I have enjoyed many an hour sitting on my deck, in the sunshine creating mandalas.  At least my version of mandalas.  They have been mostly created upon coffee filters which are super cheap and very durable.  It is quite likely that some of them will end up in stitch/beaded projects. 

Oh big surprise, another circle.  I have been playing with some of my mixed media supplies and created this with a stencil and Lumiere paint.  The shimmer of the Lumiere paint doesn't show up particularly well in this photograph.  I wonder if it would have looked better on black fabric.  Nevertheless, this is just the start.  Stitching and beading will be added.  When I get to that is another matter. A while ago I was experimenting with oil pastels on fabric.  I created this cheerful little landscape but didn't know what else I would do with it.  Having finished my floral slow stitching piece I decided this would make an interesting base to stitch into.  I hand quilted on the black lines.  I have started using up some short bits of silk ribbon.  At this point, I think I will just stitch in the field areas but that may change as things progress.  There are no great plans other than to enjoy the stitching. Just surface treatments on this piece.  First I used a stencil.  I did not love all the white that remained so I added permanent markers and blended with rubbing alcohol.  That was definitely an improvement but I continued.  I added some silver/white dots with a pen and some glitter fabric paint.  These six-inch experiments are ever so interesting to me.  Will I take them further?  I almost always want to take things further but maybe I don't have to.  Maybe, I can just enjoy doing them and call that done.
