Journal Cover

Image
Rarely have I filled a journal so quickly.  Spending so much time in lockdown I filled one journal in six months.  I was thinking I should add a cover to it to make it more interesting.  It seemed appropriate to use a collection of ribbon that a friend gifted to me.  The ribbons arrived at approximately the same time as I started this journal.  The ribbons are so bright and funky!  Love it!  I have woven them together and now am adding some stitching to hold it all together.   I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I think this journal page for Farley is finished.  The woven sari silk background is so pretty!  I must use this idea again.  Oh, just thought of how I want to use it.  Ideas are constantly bouncing around my brain.  Isn't creativity amazing!

Experimentation

Image
My sister, Nancy and I have started working through Textile Translations: Mixed Media by Maggie Grey. Pictured above is Nancy's work.  Neither of us has all the exact materials that are used in the book.  Substitutions are just another form of experimentation and we can only learn from them.   The two pieces above are my experiments using paper, gesso, salt and paint.  I think we both achieved some interesting texture.  I am not overly excited with my two pieces.  Whether they get turned into anything further is still a question mark.  The top piece is very stiff and it would not be enjoyable to stitch into it.  The bottom piece is not so stiff and it would be okay to stitch into it. We will finish the first chapter in two weeks and I will share our results then.

I heart Photography

I find my heart filled with gratitude again today.  The sun is shining, flowers and trees are blooming.  Sweet scents fill the air.  So much beauty to enjoy! I am linking to http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/ http://floralfridayfoto.blogspot.com/ http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I have pulled this piece out to work on it again.  It was feeling too precious and I was concerned about making a mistake on it.  That is never a good way for me to work.  So it had to go away for a while. I have now added some butterflies to it and like the look.  It maybe needs one more butterfly but smaller.  The butterflies were cut from fabric that I had marbled and the other from fabric I had done a rubbing. Coffee Filter Mandala

Image
I am incredibly grateful for my creativity.  I am grateful for my art supplies.  I can even be grateful for the time this pandemic has given me for creating.  I can easily lose all concerns when creating whether it is with paint and paper or needle and thread.  My coffee filter mandalas bring me so much pleasure.  Often I will stitch right into them but this one I am wondering if I should print on fabric.  It would allow for more stitching as I wouldn't worry about perforating the paper too much.  But getting the colour just right is an issue.  hmm I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

This journal page for Trinity is finished.  It is active and full of colour and that suits her personality.  It feels good to have this finished to my liking. I have had high frustration levels with other projects and needed this win!
