Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
How did it get to be December!  I really meant to fill in the big gaps in my November slice!  I still might.  We will see how it goes.  I got a lot of other stitching done in November so I guess that distracted me from this project.  There is only one slice left to stitch on this project and I find myself jumping ahead to next year. I wonder if I want to do another monthly project like this for next year.  I like having a monthly project.  I might consider doing a mixed-media instead of stitching.  Not that I couldn't incorporate some stitching into that though.  I have no clear idea at this point and that's okay.  I have to get through the holidays!   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

LeeAnna  has asked hot chocolate or hot toddy I don't recall ever having a hot toddy so I guess I will pick hot chocolate.  It is a rare treat.  It can be overly sweet.  If I am going to consume empty calories then I want salty!  But I do have some hot chocolate in the house and I must remember to make some for my granddaughter when she sleeps over next week.  She will love it! This poem landed in my email this morning.  I love poetry.  The soul of a poet is a beautiful thing!   “Praying” It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be  weeds in a vacant lot, or a few  small stones; just  pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t  a contest but the doorway  into thanks, and a silence in which  another voice may speak. Mary Oliver, from  Thirst I awoke to a dusting of our first snow this morning.  I knew it had to come eventually.  I am grateful...

Work in Progress Wednesday

This is the rest of the scroll that I have been doing.  I feel like calling this one done but with the possibility of returning to it.  It is weird how some pieces I am absolutely confident that they are finished but others not so much.  Maybe it is having a deadline that helps me feel finished!  Deadlines are good but I don't have any at the moment.  I will continue to work joyfully in my studio flitting from project to project.  There is a certain delight in having no deadlines too.

I made progress on this scroll by adding some interesting fibres to it.  More circles of course.  I have so many interesting fibres and it is good to use them.  Sometimes parts of my stash get forgotten about.  I enjoy revisiting them and finding new ways to use them.   This scroll is made up of fabric that I dyed, painted, printed etc.  It makes for an eclectic mix.  I am hoping that all the circles pull it together into something cohesive. LeeAnna  asks what dish would you take to a family dinner this month? I have a sweet potato recipe that I think is yummy and it is pretty easy.   sweet potato recipe I have never included the parsley because I don't like it.  I also get asked to bring Caesar salad to family dinners.   Going to yoga class is something I like, a lot.  I have noticed I am getting stronger and have better balance.  I have always been quite flexible but I am getting even more so.  I was wondering how I could manage to get to class and watch a dog that is staying with me.  I don't like leaving the dogs on their own as I take my responsibility probably too seriously.  Well, my very sweet husband offered to work from home so that I could get to my class.  What a great guy!   I am still practising my joy moments.  The other day I saw 'There is only one me on this earth'.  I have been sitting with that thought often since seeing it....

I don't know how many years ago I put these fabrics together to create a landscape.  So many!  Last week I pulled them out and started stitching on it.  I am pretty happy with the tree.  I am not sure what comes next.  For sure the sky and background certainly need work but I feel like it should be subtle.  I will ponder how to accomplish that.  This is a small piece so it shouldn't take long to finish once I figure it out.

Mandala Monday

I wonder if I should have added a bit more to the centre of this mandala.  I suppose I still could.  Maybe some white highlights would help.  I am a bit disappointed in the watercolour paper.  I found the top layer was lifting up as I added the shading.  I will need to figure out a better way to use this paper.
