Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
I am enjoying this technique of using up scraps so much!  I have started a butterfly.  Loads of stitching needs to be done yet.  My small bag of tiny scraps is slowly getting used up and that feels good.  There will always be more scraps! I can envision creating a series of butterflies in this manner.  I love butterflies.  I am thinking I would like to add some silk ribbon embroidery to this one.   We are going apple picking this afternoon as a family.  It is a bit of a drive so this is the perfect project to take in the car.  My granddaughter has been asking if we can open the sunroof and stand up through it when at the apple farm.  We did it last year and I am so glad that she had fun and wants to do it again! LeeAnna  has asked Did you get a new notebook and paper to use that year?  Do you still like having notebooks and calling them journals? I did not get new school supplies each year.  There were always some left from the previous year.  Being raised by parents who lived through the depression meant you made do with what you had.  Not a bad thing to learn!  I still do the same.  Mostly. I do love keeping journals!  I have never counted but I have a LOT.  I also have a LOT waiting to be used.  They are such a safe and wonderful place to make art, dream, record or whatever.  And don't get me started on pens! I have managed to go on three lovely walks with three lovely friends in the last week.  What a treat!  The leaves are gorgeous shades of red and orange right now.  Such a colourful time of year.

It doesn't look much different from last week but it is finished.  It has the backing on it to hide my mess.  If I had made it a perfect rectangle, I could have adhered it to a stretched canvas.  However, I wanted the wonky shape.  Wonky is more interesting to me.

I love moving something from the unfinished pile to the finished pile.  It feels great.  I saw a quote last week.  It said, "I need to give myself credit for how hard I am trying".  What a terrific idea!  I regularly show up for my creativity and that is a good thing!  I regularly complete projects.  That is also a good thing!

I started working on another fish because they are so much fun!  This one needs just a bit more stitching.  The tail needs some help.  It is at an awkward angle and doesn't look right.  I will ponder how to correct that.  Possibly it could be hidden behind some seaweed!  I don't have a final project in mind for the fish that I have been creating so I am not going to worry about it.  Ultimately, this looks like a fish and maybe that is good enough.   LeeAnna  has asked Did you take your lunch and did you use a little brown bag or have a lunch box?  From kindergarten to grade six, I went home every day for lunch.  My school was about a block away and Mom was a stay-at-home mom.  Most kids went home for lunch back then.  I am grateful for that privilege.  In grades 7 and ,8 I had to take the school bus and bring my lunch.  The school closest to home was too full.  When I went to high school, I walked but it was too far away to go home at lunch.  I brought my lunch.  I don't remember what I used but it certainly wasn't a lunch box.  I was way too cool for that by age! It feels good to be getting into the swing of the fall season.  Life was busy over the summer with watching my two granddaughters.  I am finding the time to get some projects finished up.  That feels good.  I am also back to yoga classes more often.  I love that my body is getting stron...

This piece needs to get finished for a guild challenge.  Every time I think I am finished, I see another place that could use a circle.  Now I see two more places!  But I also feel like this is pretty busy and doesn't need anything more.  What do you think?
