LeeAnna  has asked 2. what has been the highlight of your week? I hosted my family for a barbecue.   It is a Labour Day weekend tradition we have been doing for over 10 years. I love seeing everyone!  Some people have quite long drives, but they still come.  Some of them this is the only time we see each other.   3.imagine you won the lottery, what are your first three purchases? Fun!  I would buy a wonderful vacation for my family.  There are 12 of us, with another one on the way! Next, I would give my sons some cash; I guess that isn't buying something.  Still, it is what I would like to do.  The third purchase would be some home renovations.  We have been wanting to replace the flooring on our main floor.  These would be the first purchases.  A big chunk of money would go into retirement savings! 4.   Last month our collage group did collages.  We used imagery from Georgia O'Keeffe art books.  It was a lot of fun to reinvent Georgia.  I really this collage but I haven't glued it down yet.  I haven't found the right background for it.  I am sure I will figure it out eventually!

 Here are some more bright and cheerful flowers.  These flowers are such a fun playground for me.  I can think of numerous ways I want to use them.  It is a good thing I have a plethora of scraps for making them.  The possibilities are truly endless!  It looks like it is going to be a lovely day.  I am imagining enjoying some stitching outside this afternoon.  The weather looks perfect for it.   I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

   LeeAnna   has asked I know it's the end of summer when.... I hate admitting that it is the end of summer.  Unofficially, that happens on Labour Day weekend.  I have always loved the freedom that summer brings.  Mind you, I love the cooler nights for sleeping.   This photo is from last year, but some leaves have started turning colour.  I love that the leaves turn into colours as pretty as flowers in the fall. Yay for lots of colour! I love planning for a vacation.  I am excited to travel, see new things and learn new things.  I found an art shop in Edinburgh that has been in business since 1840!  I can't wait to see it!

 I find it difficult to get rid of my grandchildren's artwork.  I get so much pleasure from seeing them create!  I decided to do a collaborative collage with my two-year-old granddaughter.  She made a page of red scribbles.  I cut some circles from it and incorporated them into this collage.   I love the red stitching that I added and may add some more!

 Finding time to blog last week was a challenge.  I hope to do better this week.  I was delighted to find a great deal on a die that cuts this interesting shape.  It requires some folding of the paper once it has been cut.  I love the way it looks.  I can imagine doing more mandalas with this die cut!

  It was a busy week but I did manage to add some stitches to this butterfly.  I am looking forward to a quieter week ahead and hopefully more stitching time.  It would be great if the weather cooperated and I could have my stitching time on the deck in sunshine!   I am enjoying stitching on this butterfly.  It isn't quite as scrappy as some of the other butterflies I have done.  That's okay though.  I think these colours look so lovely together. LeeAnna has asked did you look forward to starting school (either elementary, junior high, senior high or Uni ?) No.  I love to learn, but I am too much of a free spirit to have ever really enjoyed school.  That all had to play a part in my deciding to homeschool my kids.  I am so glad they have become lifetime learners.  I am not sure if that would have happened if they went to public school here. I like that my 9-year-old granddaughter called this week Camp Gogo week.  My grandchildren call me Gogo.  She has gone to a few different camps this summer.  I hope this is the one she likes the best.  I am pretty sure it is.  We have been doing loads of fun art projects.  

LeeAnna has asked what back to school supply would you like to have now as an adult? Fresh new notebooks? markers or new crayons? fat pack of ruled paper? lunchbox?  LOL  tell us your fave LOL, school/office supplies make me happy.  The brightly coloured sticky notes make me unreasonably happy.  I found some that are star-shaped and couldn't resist them!  New crayons and markers are also irresistible to me.  Crayola now has a box of 152 colours!  Think how much fun you could have with that! I like that I got to go to Ripley's Aquarium last week with three of my grandchildren and other family members.  It was a good day.  Everything worked out so nicely.  We took the train to Toronto, which is so much more relaxing than driving.  The kids loved the train ride.  Doing something for the first time is so exciting.   Even though I am never excited for summer to end, I am enjoying that the mornings are a bit cooler.  I...

 More funky flowers to share!  They are so fun!  I have a few thoughts on how I might use them.  I should probably get busy and make more.  I have barely made a dent in my scrap stash!

  I should have used a different coloured background paper so this mandala would stand out better.  This one was a bit of a cheat.  I used a sticker in the centre.  

 I have been slow stitching scrolls for years.  I love the way they look in my baskets.  I have thought that I would like to display them so that all the work can be seen.  My middle son helped me with an idea for that.  I plan to submit it to an art call.     I am working on scroll number 21 right now.  It is a strip of an old bed sheet that I have stamped.  I am now stitching into the stamp designs.  I may even finish it today! LeeAnna  has asked when relaxing in summer do you like a magazine??   or novel? what magazines do you like and what novels have you enjoyed this summer? I like magazines but I rarely buy them any more. If I do buy a magazine it is likely art-related.  However,  I like to buy the September issue of Vogue, not every year, though.  I love looking at the new fashions!  Plus, it is super thick and great for collage.  I might buy the British Vogue when we go to London next month.  I don't read a lot of novels, but I do like to read the classics.  If I want to relax, I  take some art/stitching out to the deck.  That always feels good and relaxing to me. I like that I got to share some laughs and art-making with my niece Sadie yesterday.  We had lovely, heartfelt conversations.  Her older sister Amanda stopped in for a visit earlier this week.  I am so very blessed to have such awesome nieces!   Collage is just so fun!  I get to use up some of my pretty scraps.  Scraps of paper and scraps of fabric get saved in this house!  I must do a collage using some of each.  Maybe I should add some stitch to this paper collage!

 I have been having a lot of fun creating small collaged mandalas.  I glued seven of them onto a page in my art journal.  I love the riot of colour!

  A while back, I found a fat quarter bundle of unicorn fabrics at a thrift store.  I had no idea why I needed it at the time.  I bought it anyway.  Of course!  Who could walk away from sparkly unicorn fabric, especially when you have granddaughters! This fabric luxuriated in my stash, knowing it would be perfect for some wonderful project.   The project is a unicorn stuffy.  It will go along with the wonky dolls that I have created.  This is the start of that unicorn.  There is loads more embroidery to do and I am enjoying every bit of it.  These creatures are going to be characters in the book I am writing for one of my granddaughters.   I am now noticing that all of that fabric came from thrift stores.  Fun!   LeeAnna  has asked snow cone or ice cream cone?  what flavors? I don't care much for ice cream or snow cones, really.  I like sherbet or, even better, Dole Whip.  Yum!  The first time I had it was in Hawaii.  I was delighted to find it at an ice cream shop in town.  I have it maybe once a year.  That reminds me I haven't had any yet.  Oh, I do like a banana split from Dairy Queen.  I had one for my birthday this year.  Yikes, so many calories! I like that my hubby goes camping every August.  He loves it.  Usually, at least one of our sons can join him.  His brother, BIL, nephews and a friend join him as well.  It is a good, relaxing time filled with outdoor activities.  All good.  I particularly like having a week where I don't have to cook much.   I like filling my world with colour and beauty. So does Yinka Ilori His TED talk was interesting.    

 This is a collaboration with my two-year-old granddaughter.  While I was taking care of her on Monday, she made lots of art.  It was her happy place.  She made loads of art and I kept a piece.  It was fun for me to add my own marks to it. I may or may not add more to it.  We will see.  

 Hmm, this one seems rather dark.  The shimmer and shine are not showing in the photo.  I sure wish I knew a good way of capturing the glitz!  Even if I did, I feel like this could use a little something else.  I will ponder what is next for this.  

  I have added more stitching to this mandala.  There is very little space left to fill.  I imagine I can finish it today.  I love a good finish!  It has been such a pleasure working with these lovely bright colours.  I might need to start a scroll using these colours!  Fun!
