Work in Progress Wednesday

Most of these fabrics are scraps from my own painted/dyed fabrics.  I find it difficult to let go of these pretty little treasures so I have sewn them all together.  I am undecided about what comes next.  I could treat it like a crazy quilt but there are so many long, straight seams.  I think it wouldn't be very interesting.  I could apply a layer of sparkly sheer fabric and stitch it down with some interesting machine stitches.  I could burn back some of that layer.  I have done that in other projects.   What else could I possibly do with this?  It isn't at all interesting at this stage.  It might be time to dig out some books from my personal library.  I bet some of the wonderful authors have some magnificent ideas that I could incorporate into this.

Mandala Monday

I created 12 small collage-style mandalas that fit inside this little book.  I created the books years ago and finally had a clue as to what to put inside it.  It is the perfect place to hold my cheerful mandalas.   I was doing some organizing this morning and set up a worksheet to keep track of my mandalas.  Well, the ones that are in books.  I have 9 books that house 444 mandalas!  I have also created 400 coffee filter mandalas for an installation I hung last year. Wow, that is a lot of mandalas.  And that doesn't even include the random ones in journals or my stitched mandalas.  I am a prolific artist if nothing else!

My year-long stitch sampler is looking good to me!  Stitching on even-weave fabric is not something I normally do.  It helps to keep the stitching neater looking.  Not something that I am particularly good at doing.  And I am okay with that.  I am enjoying stitching on the even weave fabric but I certainly wouldn't want to do it all the time. There isn't much room left in the May slice.  I will move on to the next slice since it is close to the end of the month.  I am okay with breaking my own rules.  Well, any rules! LeeAnna  asks Do you have a  morning routine ? Funny, I have never thought of myself as one who enjoys routines.  However, I do like a slow start to my day with one or two cups of coffee.  Also, I wait until 8 am to have my breakfast which is almost always a bowl of fresh fruit.  Lately, I have added in doing the Spelling Bee Game from the NYTimes.  No rushing about for me.   It is the gardening season for most people now.  I have been 'planting' art since my backyard is mainly in the shade.  Hubby helped me put together my dragonfly and mount it on an old window.  My little art garden is a joyful little spot that makes me smile.  I wish I could make the dogs understand it is not for them.  So far none of the glass totems have been broken and I am so glad.  I am trying to think of some sort of barrier to keep out the doggies! We have had a gloriously sunny and warm week.  I find myself sighing contently and think...

I am embellishing the seams on this scroll.  I am trying to think along the lines of crazy quilting.  It has been a while since I have made a crazy quilt and I miss it.  These scrolls are close enough to fill that itch.  These seams are short so they work up pretty darn fast.  It shouldn't take much longer to have this scroll finished.

Mandala Monday

What fun I have playing with mixed-media mandalas.  The coffee filter base was painted with dye powders.  I enjoy watching the colours move and blend.  I have made colour copies of other mandalas and then cut them up and collaged them here.  Mandalas and their unlimited possibilities are amazing!

I find myself stitching on my mandalas again.  Even though I occasionally take a break from stitching mandalas, this is a love affair I can't imagine ending.  Of course, I could be wrong.  I do have many interests and don't like to be tied down.   The possibilities seem limitless and the ideas just keep coming with mandalas though. This one looks like a record album at the moment.  I wonder if my hubby would mind me rescuing one of his old albums and making it into art.  Hmm?  I do love a good upcycle!  Oh no, my brain has started swimming in ideas!
