Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
This piece is inching closer to being finished.  It doesn't need much more stitching.  There is a pink circle on the left that is being held in place by a pin.  That needs to be stitched on.  I might need a few more stitches here and there but not a lot.   The shape of this piece is a bit odd but I like that.  I still have to figure out how to finish the edges, though.  This piece needs to be finished by September for a guild challenge.  I am glad I still have time to figure things out. Work in Progress Wednesday

I created this journal so many years ago.  I started using it this week.  That feels really good.  This journal is pretty to me and that can make it precious.  Too precious to use sometimes! But no, I have dove in and started putting some colour on a few pages.  That is a good start.   I came across this quote the other day.   Your  Unused Creativity  Is Toxic. “ Unused creativity  is  not benign . It metastisizes. It  turns into grief ,  rage ,  judgment ,  sorrow ,  shame .” ~  Brené Brown I know it's true for me.  I definitely get cranky if I have been creating.

Mandala Monday

Yikes, my black marker exploded ink onto this mandala when I took the lid off.  So I added more!  Now it feels a bit much.  How do I bring this back from the brink of disaster?  I am leaning towards a wash of white acrylic paint to knock it all back.  I am not really sure if this is fixable but I have to try!

This funky tree was created from a piece of knitting that had also been needle felted.  I think I need to add some beading to it.  Beads make everything better!  It will be fun to go through my stash to find the right beads to add to this. Hopefully, the weather cooperates and I can do some stitching outside on the deck this afternoon.  That is always such a pleasure! I am linking to https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/

LeeAnna  has asked spending time outdoors: would you rather: resting in a hammock or digging in a garden? Oh my gosh, without any doubt, I would rather rest in a hammock.  Or floating in a pool would be even better.  I have done tons of gardening over the years and was mildly successful until our huge maple tree became so large that our backyard gets no sunshine.  Everything died off and I have given up.  Now it is the same in our front yard.  The tree out front is huge and needs to be trimmed.  At least it is on city property and they are responsible for that. I love flowers and wish they would grow here.  But I am enjoying my small potted vegetable garden.  I have harvested enough lettuce for three salads so far.  I have harvested a few cherry tomatoes.  It looks like I will have a bumper crop of cucumbers.  I am so grateful for the small area outside my kitchen door that gets enough sunshine to grow some veggies! While diggi...

Mandala Monday

Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery hosts a free Family Day once a month.  My granddaughter loves to go and I love to take her.  It is such a lovely, special time for the two of us.  We went yesterday and when chatting with the facilitator, I was dismayed to learn that we were the only visitors they had that day!  What a shame!  They set out four stations with a different art activity at each.  The activities are fairly simple so that any age can participate. My granddaughter loved working with the modelling clay yesterday.  We were there for almost two hours!  She made a terrific underwater scene.  She didn't need much help from me so I made a mandala collage.  One simply can't sit around ignoring art supplies!

It feels good to be back on track with my tree per month project.  It is funny how ideas morph and then cause challenges.  I love figuring out a way to make the challenge work.  Sometimes it takes a while but that's okay. This tree was started on a piece of cloth that was stitched by someone else but was never finished.  Can you see all the nice even cross stitches?  They were not done by me.  I added paint to the cloth to make it my own.  I cut out the tree shape and used the buttonhole stitch to adhere it in place.  That wasn't the best stitch to use but it got the job done.  The tree is slightly askew.  I like it that way even though it wasn't intentional.
