June Journal Word

Image
A new month means a new word for the month.  I decided upon the word sacred.  I guess I should have looked up the dictionary meaning before choosing it.  The dictionary's meaning centres around religion and doctrine.  Neither of which I am a fan of.  Don't get me wrong, I am a deeply spiritual woman but I have some issues with dogma etc.  We won't go down that rabbit hole.  Sacred means something else to me and I will continue to work with this word.   Back to the art.  I printed out the word to use as a pattern.  It tucked said pattern into a page protector. I applied acrylic medium to form the letters and then sprinkled cut up sparkly thread onto it.  Once dry, I was able to remove the letters from the page protector.  The letters then needed a haircut.  I am pleased with the letters.  This challenge has been a stretch and I am enjoying that. I love the background fabric that I created but I am thinking t...

I Like

Image
My thanks to Leanna at  Not Afraid of Color  for inviting me to participate in an 'I Like' weekly post.  Ah, but where to start?  There are so many things that I collect, like and am grateful for.  A long rambling list would not be very interesting. I just saw a message about living a creative life so that is where I will start.  I like living a creative life.  I find it fulfilling and frustrating at times.  My creativity is a superpower that allows me to heal, express and connect.  Creativity has infinite possibilities and that is exciting to me.  Also exciting are the unending cool supplies.  I just bought some Unicorn Spit paint as a birthday gift to myself.  Who can resist all things sparkling?  Well, lots of people but not me.   Speaking of my birthday it is a milestone one.  In two days I will turn 60.  I certainly don't feel that old.  But I am a grandmother to three beautiful grandchi...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I have added some orange doodads to this mandala.  They were in my bead stash but they are not beads.  They don't have any holes.  I was hoping to find enough of one shape to go around the circle but had to be satisfied with finding enough that had at least one point.  I quite like the way they look.  Rarely does a title pop into my head for a piece but this wants to say "Citrus Love".

Journal Play

Image
I heard a lovely phrase yesterday.  Senseless acts of beauty.  Love it!  I added it to this journal page so that I would remember it.  Now, this journal page isn't particularly beautiful.  This is a lined Moleskine journal and it is not really meant for art-making.  I chose it because the lines would prevent me from making anything really beautiful.  Beauty is not the purpose of this journal.  This journal is for random thoughts, doodles, collage, paint play and self-expression.  All of which are senseless acts of beauty in my opinion.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Image
This mandala has a deadline.  It needs to be done by August to be in the Purple Reign challenge put on by SFSND.  I take my commitment to challenges seriously and aim to not flake out on them.  Plus, I like having things done well in advance of a deadline.  I used a Lumiere paint through a gorgeous stencil to get me started.  I have added some silver thread stitching as that is what was calling to me.  It doesn't look like a lot but it took me a couple of hours.  I am grateful I was able to sit outside and enjoy my deck and sunshine while stitching.  It just feels so good.  If the forecast for today is correct I should be able to do more of the same.  Always a pleasure.  I just have to figure out what the next step is! Boho Love

Image
I was born in the sixties.  I was a carefree hippy child, mostly.  I attribute my love of colour to that.  I get excited for an abundance of colour.  It really makes me happy.  I saw a great boho curtain on Pinterest and knew I had to make one.  I only needed to come up with a good reason to do so.  Well, we have a lovely deck and enjoy spending time on it.  We have lovely neighbours two doors down who have a deck on the same level as ours.  There is not an abundance of trees between said decks and they are often on their deck at the same time we are.  The perfect excuse to make a boho curtain.  I dug out ribbons and fabric scraps and sewed this together.  It seemed quite full when I put it together but now I am thinking more is needed.  It might be a bit unwieldy  to manage under the machine.  Hand stitching might take a bit too long.  Hmm, glue?  Staples?  Or back to the machine and just power th...

I Show Up

Image
Pardon my self-reflection but I have a milestone birthday coming.  It seems appropriate to celebrate the things that I do right.  I will keep them to specifically art-related things.   I regularly show up for my art practice.  Rarely does a day go by that I do not exercise my creative wings.  Yes, there are times when I think why bother?  What's the point?  Well, the answer to that is that creativity must come out.  If it doesn't I get cranky.  That is never good. I am a generous artist.  I regularly share my knowledge and supplies.  I am downright eager to help any artist on their creative path.   I am a positive artist.  Nothing dark and brooding here.  I want people to be inspired, hopeful, and filled with joy when they look at my art.  Obviously, I can't control how people respond to my work and that is fine.  My intentions are good. I am a successful artist.  My work has been in man...
