Distressing paper and sheer fabrics

My fibre guild met this morning.  For the winter months we are doing hands on workshops.  So fun!  Today we stitched sheer fabrics and paper.  We then painted the paper and distressed it.  We used a soldering iron to burn away the sheer fabrics.  The stitching was done by machine.  I also wanted to explore doing it with hand stitch, see bottom photo.   That of course takes longer and I have not finished yet.

You must have enjoyed this project. I have yet to try a soldering iron.
