Work in progress Wednesday

Image
I believe my July crazy quilt block is finished.  I added some pink stitchingdown the left side and little flowers across the top.  Possibly more stitching could be added but I will wait until I have all the blocks put together and decide then.  I am linking with   http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ and http://pintangle.com/

Take a stitch Tuesday Woven zig zag chain

Image
Love this stitch!  I really like woven stitches.  They are just cool.  I added a row of them to my July crazy quilt block.  I also plant to add some sequins so that they look like flowers. Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/  for the instructions.

Art journal page

I had fun creating this page.  It combines some paper cutting with zentangles.  Life has been busy with fun things so I count myself blessed but I have been neglecting my poor little blog.

work in progress

I am making some progress on my July crazy quilt block.  I have added the stitching in blue, which I admit is pretty difficult to see in this photo.  I have also added the dangly bead/charms. I am participating in the work at progress at the following blogs. Who knew there were so many! http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ pintangle.com

Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
The zig zag chain stitch is a stitch that I have done previously.  It is simple and I really like it.  I added it to my July crazy quilt block pictured above.  I think rows and rows of it would look very cool but I didn't have the space to that on this block.  Maybe another time. Thanks to Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/   for the instructions.

photography

I have been itching to get out my camera and play.  I got a new android phone recently and have enjoyed playing with the camera function on it.  Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to get all the photos onto my computer.  I easily loaded one group of images onto my computer but not the second group.  So I am feeling a bit frustrated. Anyway, here is a cool image of color and texture.  Two of my favorite things! I cam across this article today and  really enjoyed it.  Especially this point about ignoring criticisim. 6 – Ignore Criticism  – Creativity is fostered by self confidence.  You can’t be creative while being concerned with potential criticism at the same time.  In order to bring your creative ideas to life, you have to ignore criticism during the creative phase.  Their will be time to consider criticism later on, if and when it comes your way. The Complete Set

Image
Oh how happy it makes me to have the complete set of just about anything!  I found this set of Dr. Ph Martin's watercolors on Kijiji for a super great price!  I am thrilled.  I don't know a lot about them yet but I do know I got a bargain. Of course, I had to experiment with them.  I added them to this altered book.  I really should have waited to experiment though as my hands are now quite stained with color.  I have a shower to go to this afternoon and thought I would look like a lady and wear a cool dress.  Well, I am still going to wear the dress but my stained hands will betray my lady status!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This feels pretty monumental to me.  I started this quilt about 10 years ago!  It took a while to collect all the fabrics that I wanted to use.  I pieced the blocks together fairly quickly after I had all my fabric.  Of course it is the embellishing that took so much time.  Granted I would put the blocks away for a while when I tired of the projected and needed to work on something fresh.  This past weekend I stitched all the blocks together. It feels good to have thathttp://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ done.  It feels like this quilt we be finished some day!  I would like to do some more embellishing over the seams as my corners are not perfect.  I will then need to put a back and binding on it.  I think I will use a burgandy velvet for the backing.  The binding is the part that scares me.  I really don't have the right skills to do a binding. I am thrilled to have found this blog and  link with the work in progress that they do http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.

Altered book pages

Image
There is no Take a Stitch Tuesday today so I thought I would post about a altered book I have been creating.  I started this book years ago but have set it aside for a while.  It feels good to be creating with paper again.  I have been concentrating on my stitching for quite a while!  It is good to mix it up a bit!  However I do think I want to add some fabric/fibre to this book!

Fun class and talented students

Image
Yesterday I taught an Embedded Fibres workshop to four very talented artists.  The time flew past so quickly!  The chatter and creativity was invigorating!  Pictured above are their terrific creations.

Work in progress Wednesday

Image
This is my July crazy quilt block.  I am making some good progress on it.  I feel confident I will be able to have it finished before the end of the month.  I am really happy with the glittery, gold ricrac.  I think it works really well with this block.

Take a Stitch Tuesday 73 Portuguese stem stitch

Image
I have to say that when I first looked at the instructions for this stitch on Sharon's blog  http://pintangle.com/   I thought I would skip it.  It looked a bit daunting to me.  But I decided to look closer and actually read the instructions and decided that I can do that.  I am really glad that I attempted it.  It is a neat stitch and not that difficult.  Mind you I have not perfected it but I will continue to work at it.  I must say that I did find it easier to do sideways rather than up and down.

Workshop on the Web

I have been a subscriber to Workshop on the Web by Maggie Grey for about a year and a half.  Maggie and her cohorts are extremely creative and inventive.  I always look forward to receiving the interesting articles.  Right now they are offering a free book to new subscribers!  What a great deal!  Check it out here http://www.workshopontheweb.com/ or here http://magstitch.blogspot.ca/2013/06/a-very-special-offer.html You won't be disappointed.

July workshops, come play and have some fun!

July is a fun and busy month because of that I will not be offering classes on Saturday mornings as usual.  I will be teaching on Friday afternoons from 1 to 3pm instead. I am offering the following two repeat classes as a number of people have requested them.  Should be great fun! Friday July 12 Embedded Fibres   I am sure that I am not the only one who collects interesting yarns and fibres. This workshop is a great way to use up some of that beautiful stash. No, you don’t need to bring any of your collection to class. I have more than enough to share! A lovely project will be created. This is a project that you can take home and add stitch to it or frame as is. There is no sewing involved in creating this project. Friday July 26 Tortured Fibres We will be torturing fabric as well as a few other surfaces.  Burning, fraying, melting and distressing fabric will be the fun for the day.  Great texture can be created with these techniques.

Tantalizing Tatting

Image
I love tatting.  I was thrilled to find these pieces at a thrift store.  It seems hard to find tatting at thrift stores, at least for me.  These pieces feel a bit stiff and they are very regular so it makes me wonder if they are hand made.  Can tatting be done by machine?

Work in progress

Okay, I guess it doesn't look like I did much to this block but I did add a bit of stitching.  I am calling this block done now.
