I would never call myself a painter

Image
Yesterday I was at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery to volunteer with the senior's art program.  I love working with the seniors!  They are fabulous!   One of the ladies has had a stroke and struggles to find some words.  However, she doesn't let it stop her.  She participates in the discussion about the art works more than anyone.  Everyone patiently waits while tries to come up with the right word.  She always has a big smile on her face!  God bless her!  The art instructor asked if I would do up a sample to show to the seniors and possibly inspire them.  I only had about 10 minutes and this is what I created.  I had fun doing it and think it isn't bad for 10 minutes.

This mandala I decided to paint with Twinkling H2Os watercolor paint by Luminarte.  I wanted to participate in their fall color challenge.  If you look closely you can see the beautiful shimmer the paints have.  You can also see all my goofs if you look closely!  Oh well. As per usual, please feel free to print the mandala I designed.  It would be really cool to see how you color it!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Poor little blog!  It has been ignored recently due to getting  Her Cup Runneth Over Show and Silent Auction  installed.  The bulk of my time has been spent working on this worthy cause!  the show is now up and looks fabulous by the way!  So many talented artists have contributed some really fantastic art bras! I have had a few minutes to create though.  The piece pictured above is a really good start!  I know it doesn't look like much yet.  I have applied old music sheets to canvas fabric.  I have also added some transfer foil and then some inks on top of that.  I like the way some of the shimmer shines through.  I got so lost in applying the inks that I spilled half a bottle of Heart of Darkness ink.  What a mess!!!  I even had it in my hair.  I am not sure what my next step is for this piece.  It is definitely going to have stitching on it but it may need more ink first. I am having a lot of fun coloring my own designs!  It is very satisfying to me.  I hope you like these designs that I post and spend some time coloring them. It is so relaxing. I am not sure the rosie pink color was the right choice.  It was originally much darker so I used a white pencil crayon to tame it a bit.  Oh well, not the end of the world.

I created this leaf print in a workshop 10 years ago!  Where did the time go?   I have always liked the results even though the colors are not as vivid as I usually enjoy.  This has sat waiting for inspiration all these years.  Finally I have added some hand stitching to it.  I am tempted to leave it at that.  It is rather simple but simple can be good. The center green part of this flower looks like a cozy welcoming bed to me.  I just want to lay down and rest on it!  Love these colors, they are so vibrant and cheerful to me. I am linking with http://anenglishgirlrambles.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Her Cup Runneth Over Show and Silent Auction

We have had so many wonderful art bras donated this year!  It will be exciting to see the show installed next week.  Here is a little sneak peak of the art bra my friend Nancy Townes created. SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS BY THE SEASHORE The sea is ever changing. When the sunlight dances off the waves and creates rainbows in its spray, it is a joy and a delight to walk peacefully along a sandy shore. But seasons change, and shorelines change and the gentle waves can turn into a challenge for those caught too far off shore. Some will lose their battle against the waves. So it is with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Just when life seemed simple and manageable, a challenge is set before us. We struggle to survive. We hope and pray that with the support and strength of family and friends, we can make it back to shore safely and stronger than we were before our ordeal. Back to a calm and peaceful and joyous life. Also, pretty cool is that I will be on Rogers Daytime on Wednesday Oct. 21, 2015 t

Bead Journal for October

Image
I used a coloring page as the base for this bead journal.  I am totally at a loss as to why I used a commercial image and not one of my own designs.  I do like the way it turned out though.  I went with a mixed media approach  using beads, metallic threads and micro beads adhered by gel medium.  I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

This time I printed my design larger.  I lost some of the design but I don't really mind that.  I had a lot of fun coloring with permanent markers and Caran D'ache watercolor crayons.  I am glad to share this design with you and hope that you enjoy coloring it.

I added more beads and more silk ribbon embroidery to this piece.  Possibly more could be done to this block but I need to move along.  I haven't started my October block yet and I really hate running behind.  I can always revisit this block should I choose to. My frozen flower has turned out kind of neat!  I saw instructions for this a while ago and froze this flower back in the summer.  It took me a while to get around to photographing it.  So glad that I finally did it.   I am going for a walk this afternoon and hope to find some beautiful leaves and will try it with one! I am linking with http://anenglishgirlrambles.blogspot.ca/2015/10/todays-flowers-367-october-9th-2015.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ There have been a couple of comments asking how I did this.  I froze a small amount of water in a take out container.  Once frozen I could pop it out of the container, add  water and my flower.  I then put the ice on top of the flower.  The ice weighted down the flower.  I then put it back into the freezer to freeze it all together.  When I was ready to shoot the frozen flower I removed it all from the container.  I also ran some water over it to melt away some of the ice and see the flower more clearly.  I hope this all makes

The start of something good

I don't use a lot of white in my work so this fabric just had to have color added to it.  The photo is not doing justice to how lovely it looks with the inks added.  I adore adding color and getting inky.  So fun!  I am hoping to use this fabric for a base.  My idea is to add ribbon, sheers and beads to create a waterfall.  Hopefully it works out as well as I imagine it!  I think I have a good start. Enjoy the free coloring page I created.  It is my pleasure to share them with you.  I quite enjoy creating them and coloring them.  As always, I would love to see what you do with them.  Lately, my mind has been swirling with ideas of taking them further.

The crazy quilt block I posted about last week was totally uninspired as far as crazy quilting.  I have set it aside and will use it for a base for something else.  The little Barbie dress has also been set aside to hopefully be used in a different CQ block.  Pictured above is my new September CQ block.  Lots of lovely lace!  I have added silk ribbon embroidery and a few beads.  Still more to do but I am feeling more inspired. The petals are reaching upwards!  At least in this photo they appear to be.  It lifts my spirits! I am linking with Today's Flowers http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

More resurrected work

Image
This fabric and paper collage started earlier this year.  I wasn't super excited about it and it ended up at the bottom of the pile of experiments.  Yesterday I decided to add more fabric and machine stitching to it.  Oh yes, and some transfer foil.  As a piece it is um, not great.  As a background it is far too busy.  What to do?  I am thinking I could cut it up and make greeting cards.  Or cut it up and then do some beading on to it.  Or both! Here is another coloring page for you to print.  I would love to see what you do with it!  I printed mine on vellum and used Sharpies to color it.
