Still Playing

Image
I am enjoying the challenge of working in this fabric journal.  Since stitching will show through on the next page it isn't really an option.  It is giving me the opportunity to play with surface treatments.  I was inspired by a lovely blog comment to treat the left tree as a fall tree.  I stamped leaf shapes with foiling adhesive.  After waiting for it to dry I applied some transfer foil in golds, red and copper. Journal challenge week #30

Image
All who are creative, in whatever way ,is doing something important to the well being of this world.    I agree with this quote.  We may not always like all the artistic results but we still make the world better by our creating.  This journal page is way too busy for my liking but I still had fun creating it.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am calling my bead journal for July finished.  I am quite pleased with the way it has turned out.  I think  my bead journal for August is going to be done on a doily as well.  This has a lot of potential! I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/ http://www.supermomnocape.com/

Another one of my kaleidoscopes.  They are so much fun to create!  I just love the way the turn out.  I had some printed and they look fabulous.  I have to set to work framing them.  I am very pleased to say that I am the featured artist in a small art show.  It will be a busy week getting all the photos framed and ready for the show. Progress on my bead journal

Almost done.  I am loving the way this is coming along.  I can't wait to start another one! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/ http://www.supermomnocape.com/

Journal Page Week 29

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.   Is the quote by Lao-tzu this week.  I like the idea of breaking down large tasks into smaller bite sized steps.  It really works well for me when I start to feel overwhelmed.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I stamped some leaves on the one tree and I am pleased with the results.  I am wanting to do something else for the other tree.  Still the same challenge though.  If I stitch it will go through to the cover.  I am enjoying the challenge and enjoying that it is forcing me to think outside of the box.  Pondering what to do next can be fun. Oh!  Doesn't all that glorious color make your heart sing?  It does mine.  I have so much fun creating these kaleidoscope photos. I am linking with http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/07/summer-evening-in-mostar.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

A little different for me

Image
It is good to break outside of the box every once in awhile.  I created a fabric book with animal print fabric.  I do love a good animal print but don't often work with that color scheme.  Here I have stencilled trees onto one of the pages.  My instinct is to add stitching since it is a fabric book.  However, the pages are sewn together and that means the back of the stitching would show on the next page.  Yuck.  So now I ponder what next?  More paint? Art Journal Week 28

Image
Never regret anything that makes you smile.  Right!  Good advice. This page has some marbling done it on it.  I added a border with watercolor crayons and the butterfly I colored with a bit of sparkle.    Sparkle always makes me smile!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Well, I wasn't overly inspired with the start of my bead journal this month and I was excited to start using some of the doilies that I dyed a couple of weeks ago.  So I restarted with this.  I plan to create a kaleidoscope look with this. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Here is my Looped Cretan Stitch.  I stitched it on handmade paper again.  I really like the way it looks on the paper.  Thanks to Sharon B  for the instructions.

Oil Pastel Experiments

Image
I did a rubbing with oil pastels of a sea shell slice.  I plan to use this as a starting point for my bead journal for July.  On the right is some fabric that I transferred oil pastel from paper to the patterned fabric.  It really doesn't look like much and I won't likely use this for anything.  However, the technique was kind of interesting and definitely has some potential.  Further explorations will be necessary.   I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal Page Week 27

The quote is To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow.  So do it. by Kurt Vonnegut.  I haven't been putting a lot of effort into making my journal pages beautiful.  I am okay with journal pages not being a master piece.  I am making art, maybe not well but certainly not badly.  Just okay is alright.

Work In Progress Wednesday

A riot of color here.  All this vibrant color makes me happy.  I have been dyeing up a storm.  This is just the ribbons, rick rack and laces that I dyed.  I am not quite sure how I am going to use it all.  Possibly I should sell some of it. http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a stitch Tuesday

Image
Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instruction for the Open Base Needlewoven Picot stitch.  It has been ages since I have done it so a bit rusty.  I liked the idea of the flower better than the way it turned out.  I really like the stitch but did find it difficult to get the petals even.  Definitely I need more practice.

Oh yeah, more fun with kaleidoscopes.  So colorful, so vibrant.  I can't stop myself! I am linking with http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Adding Color

Image
I have been wanting to make a quilt with doilies for a while.  I had the doilies picked out and they sat waiting.  The idea is a good one but there was something holding back from proceeding.  Well duh, it was the lack of color.  I am all about color so white, off white and beige doilies really weren't doing it for me.  I have started adding color to the doilies and I am much happier now.
