Artist in Residence update

There are only a few weeks left of my residency with the Ayr Library.  To say that I have completely enjoyed it is an understatement.  The library staff are the best!  The beautiful libraries I have visited in the Region of Waterloo are utterly charming.  The workshop participants have been lovely.

Part of the mandate of the residency is to engage the community with art.  To that end, I have had people altering book pages to be included in the altered book that I am creating.  Pictured above are some of the pages created.

I am already starting to dream up another artist in residence proposal.  I really want to do more of this!

Comments

  1. What inspired the alterations? The text on the page? Some pages are light and hopeful, while the second from the bottom make me think of a censured letter. Did you ever see Greta Garbo in Ninotchka? In the film there is a censured letter where you can only read a few words.

  2. I think mainly it was the text on the page that inspired the work. I love the idea of a censured letter! I will have to use that idea. No, I have never seen Ninotchka. Will have to google it.
