TAST knotted cretan

Sharon B at showed the knotted cretan stitch this week.  I think I got it.  I wish I would have worked it smaller but having just learned it I will accept this as good enough.

bead journal project for May

Wow!  This one really stumped me for most of the month.  I had the photo sitting on my table all month and just wasn't sure how I should add the beads.  Today, finally the idea came.  I love the idea of the dangling beads!

Funky Flower class

Sorry for my absence.  Blogger is not cooperating!  I am not sure what is up with that.  I did a post about my Funky Flower class on Thursday and it never showed up here.  The title is in the file in draft form but there is nothing else there other than the title.  Too weird.
The class was a wonderful success!  It was full to the max and everyone produced some lovely things.  We crammed a lot into our short time together!  I have such a blast teaching!  I really enjoy seeing all the creativity.

TAST butterfly chain

Again, another new stitch for me.  I really liked this one as I could immediately see how I could do it my way!  Always, the rebel I prefer to NOT follow instructions.  It just goes against my grain!  Another way to say it is I get a lot of pleasure from my things my own way.

On different note, yesterday I posted my 500th blog post!  That really surprised me.  I honestly didn't know that I had that much to say or that much art to share.  I wish I would have thought of a clever give away to celebrate.

getting ready

It has been such a busy week getting ready for the Waterloo County Quilt Festival!  I am thrilled to be participating this year.  My work will be for sale in St. Jacobs for the coming week.  So exciting!  Pictured above are a couple of pieces that will be at the show.  I will also be teaching my Funky Flower class on Wednesday.  I believe the class is full but if you ask real nice I might be able to squeeze you into it!

another piece from the challenge

This piece was done Karen. It is a small piece about 4 inches by 4 inches.  I just love the square sequins she added.  So pretty!

Isn't this a great piece

Brenda created this from the fibres I supplied for our guild challenge.  She is very talented and created a wonderful piece with great movement!  So fun.  I have really been enjoying seeing the creations of the guild members.

TAST bullion

Here is the start.  It is going to make a million more of these to fill the space!  But I am up for the challenge.  I thought I better post this today even though  it is not finished since it will take a while to finish!  I have not done this stitch prior to this but it is one that I have wanted to try for a long time.  Thanks to Sharon B for leading us through all these stitches!

Happy Mother's Day

I managed to keep this beautiful planter filled with flowering plants alive for a week!  Yay me!  The colors are so vibrant and beautiful.  I am certain that my Mom will enjoy them all summer long.  Even though her memory isn't what it used to be she still remembers to take care of her plants.
Happy Mother's day to all you beautiful and hard working mothers out there!

more fun finds

These absolutely gorgeous buttons came to me through ebay.  They are so pretty it just makes me happy to look at them!  These are one of those things that I think I will find it hard to use.  They are just so precious!  How do you get past that?

Shopping at the Ontario Network of Needleworkers annual meeting

Wednesday the annual meeting was in Guelph.  What a feast for the eyes.  The guilds were showing some stunning work.  It was lovely to see all that creativity!  Of course the vendor hall was a treat too.  I picked up some yummy fibres.  I wish I had the time to play with them right now!

TAST half chevron

When will I ever learn!  When doing a new stitch I should not immediately go to a project.  That is what I did on the top photo.  Well, after a long day of looking after two sons who had their wisdom teeth surgically removed I was not firing on all cylinders but I wanted to feel like I had had a productive day so I just went for it and stitched on this month's crazy quilt journal project.  duh!  bad move!  Clearly I wasn't getting it.

Today with a clearer head I stitched on  a practice piece and thankfully I figured it out.  The lower photo shows how I added to an existing practice piece.  I like the pastel colors.  I don't usually work with them.

shrinking fabric

Have you heard of shrinking fabric?  It is a fabric that has a grid running through it and when washed in hot water and put through the dryer it shrinks up.  Pictured above I have stitched some synthetic fabrics to it.  I love the crinkled texture that you get!  I understand that synthetic fabric works the best but I would like to see what happens with cottons and silks.

My happy place

My calligraphy guild is doing a newsletter on studio spaces and I was asked to contribute.  This is one of the pictures I sent for consideration.  Originally I was going to tidy up before taking the pictures.  I decided against that as this is how my studio looks 98% of the time.  I can well imagine that that is true for most of us.    Being creative does not tend to be tidy but sure is fun!

April crazy quilt project a bit late

I am just a bit late completing this block.  Oh well.  I had fun playing with the rayon tape that I found at a thrift store.  I found three rolls!  I knew I had to have I just wasn't sure what I would do them.  The Yahoo group I belong to came to rescue with some great ideas.  Also the most recently published Crazy Quilt on line magazine had a great way to make roses with it.

TAST Crossed buttonhole stitch

I am not completely sure that I did this stitch right.  Honestly, I was having a hard time wrapping my head around this one!  I used some cotton yarn that I had previously used to wrap fabric for shibori.  I love the colors!  Now I want to do some more shibori so I can have the yarn/thread!
Thanks to Sharon B at for all the hard work and instruction!
