Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Here is my February crazy quilt block.  It is almost the end of the month and I don't feel it is quite done yet.  Still needs a little something.  I guess I will be late with my block again.  Not good!

Take a stitch Tuesday buttonholed herringbone

Well again Sharon at  http://pintangle.com/  has come up with another new stitch for me.  It combines the two obvious stitches which I have done previously so I wasn't too intimidated to try it.  I really like it!  I will definitely use this stitch again.

I can't seem to stop

After doing the chair for Habitat for Humanity I can't seem to stop doing zentangle inspired art.  I am finding it so relaxing.  An added benefit is I seem improving my eye hand co-ordination.

This is the my crazy quilt block for February.  I am making some good progress.

I came across this quote today

The Secret to Trying New Things People say it's gross that I eat grubs and goat liver, but if you haven't tried it, how do you know? Our brains tell us lies, and if we listen, we cost ourselves surprises. When trying something new, cast off your fear and expectations. —Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods America Read more:  http://www.oprah.com/spirit/Advice-from-Successful-People-Secrets-to-Success#ixzz2LHVITLMt This really rings true to me!

unveiling

Image
Last night was the unveiling for the Salvaging Art Restoring Hope project in support of Habitat for Humanity.   These are the pieces that I created.  The bottom two pictures are the materials I got from the ReStore.  The following are my artist statements. Chair The instant I saw the chair at the Restore I knew what I wanted to do with it.  The black iron/metal would stay as it was.  The wood pieces had to be painted white.  Black and white are a striking combination in my view.   The drawing process is almost meditative for me.  The main heart motif on the chair is representative of the love that Habitat for Humanity demonstrates to this community and world. Mirror  When I picked the mirror I wasn’t exactly sure what I would do with it.  I did think it would be a good base from which to start.  As I love to work with fibre I was hoping that an idea would emerge that would work with both the mirror and fibre.  I have to say that the mirror sat in my studio for a

Okay, now I am happy with this block.  It just needed a little something so I added the green vine on the right.  I am calling my January block finished!

TAST Triangular feather stitch

Image
I have done a lot of the feather stitch but not the triangular feather stitch.  That stitch is new to me.  I quite like it.  I even got adventurous and added some french knots!  I really do like learning new things!  You can see the instructions at  http://pintangle.com/

Score! and a question

Image
I took my Mom out shopping yesterday.  She loves to go to thrift stores too.  So fun!  I found a package full of seam binding, great colors.  I thought seam binding was always rayon but one package is marked taffeta.  I have never seen that before this.  Anyway, there was also a roll of this stuff!  Bottom two pictures. I have no clue what it is.  It feels like plastic to me.  It is quite stiff.  Anyone know what it is?  Or what you do with it?

This is my Jan. crazy quilt block.  Funny, now that I am looking at the photo of it, I am not as happy with it.  It needs a little more work.  Sometimes I wonder if anything is ever truly finished!

TAST raised Herringbone

Image
Okay, well it is my version of that stitch.  I did not do the padding/satin stitch.  To me it just looked heavy and I didn't want that.  I am sure that it will look good on other stitching.  I struggle with getting the herringbone even.  This is about the closest that I have ever got!  It helped to have the regular pattern in the fabric to use as a guide.  I do like this stitch. Sharon has great instructions at http://pintangle.com/ For some strange reason this didn't post yesterday!  Weird.

I am a winner!
