unveiling

Last night was the unveiling for the Salvaging Art Restoring Hope project in support of Habitat for Humanity.
These are the pieces that I created.  The bottom two pictures are the materials I got from the ReStore.  The following are my artist statements.

Chair
The instant I saw the chair at the Restore I knew what I wanted to do with it.  The black iron/metal would stay as it was.  The wood pieces had to be painted white.  Black and white are a striking combination in my view.   The drawing process is almost meditative for me.  The main heart motif on the chair is representative of the love that Habitat for Humanity demonstrates to this community and world.
Mirror
When I picked the mirror I wasn’t exactly sure what I would do with it.  I did think it would be a good base from which to start.  As I love to work with fibre I was hoping that an idea would emerge that would work with both the mirror and fibre.  I have to say that the mirror sat in my studio for a quite awhile before the light bulb moment happened.  Once the idea of wonky little houses came to me I was off and running.  Each house base was created with different yarns and fibres.  I added unique roof lines to each house made from the faux tin ceiling tile I found at the Restore.
