Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
It is the last day of September and I am glad to see it go.  Not a very fun month for me.  I was really stuck on a crazy quilt project for the month but today an idea came to me.  This will be my princess block.  I am using a Barbie dress and some luscious silk and some velvet a friend gave me.  It is always fun to use something that a friend gifted.  Look out, some major bling is coming to this piece.  I have to get my sparkle back! Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon shows how to do the Barred Chain Stitch at  Pintangle   I really like this stitch and think it works quite well with the metallic thread and handmade paper.  I am going to have to remember to do this one on a crazy quilt. I am linking with http://www.supermomnocape.com/

I Heart Macro

Image
It has been a couple of weeks since I could participate in sharing my macro flower shots.  I think the carnation is much more interesting in macro! I am linking with http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Reworking an old piece

Image
I started this piece a while back.  I thought I had finished it but I was not completely satisfied with it. It is very heavily textured and I quite like that.  I think it could even use a bit more!  I have some interesting yarn that I think I will couch down.   It is kind of fun to take a piece and make it better! I hope you enjoy coloring these as much as I do.  It is a very meditative process.  This one I printed onto photo paper and colored with Sharpie markers.  They look very vibrant on the photo paper.

I made a little progress on this piece.  I have added some metallic surface treatment.  It is not showing up in this photo.  Metallic is so elusive to capture with the camera!  I think I want to do some more surface design on this before I start beading and embroidering it. This is my Whipped Wheel Stitch.  I love this stitch.  I don't know why I don't think to use it more often.  This one done on handmade paper is having some tension issues.  It was fine until I got to the end of my thread.  I will have to fiddle with it a bit more to get it just right.  I had thought about adding another color to it but wasn't quite sure I how I would do that.  I will ponder that and hopefully come up with a solution as I think it would look a lot better.    Thanks to Sharon B at  Pintangle  for the instructions.

Bead Journal for September

Image
I feel like this has enough beading now.  The beading enhances the kaleidoscope without obliterating it.  I pushed myself outside of my box by using some bigger beads.  I am always learning! Click on the top image and print it out, color it and then show me what you have done!  I really would love to see how you color this!  I used water media to color mine this week.  I went with the colors of fall. My coloring from the first week I attached to an art journal page.  The colors match way better in real life.  I like covering over the writing I do in my journals.  I don't have deep, dark secrets to hide, I am really quite shallow!  I like the writing to add visual interest and it isn't there for anyone to read.

Funky, chunky, mixed media beads!  I have been busy preparing some beads for an upcoming workshop.  It is going to be loads of fun to teach this one!  So many ideas!  They are a bit addictive to make. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Aw, the running stitch.  What a useful stitch for mark making.  I have used it a lot for pieces I consider to be more art than stitch (not that stitch isn't art!).  It worked well on this handmade paper.  I used Kreinik blending filament in the holographic colors.  I even managed to capture some of the sparkle in this photograph! You can find Sharon's instructions here http://pintangle.com/2015/09/15/take-a-stitch-tuesday-12/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Pintanglecom+%28pintangle.com%29

Starting a new piece

Image
I needle felted some rovings into a piece of silk paper that I had created.  It has been a bit since I have done any needle felting.  I really enjoy the process and wonder why I have not done any for a while.  At this point I am not in love with the way this looks.  The top photo is blurry due to camera shake and I like it better!  Just needs more work.  I am planning to incorporate this into a mixed media crazy quilt landscape.  In my head it is going to be cool! Adult Colouring Page

Here is my third in the series of adult coloring pages.  I have mine completely colored this week.  It is truly a mixed media piece.  I used Triplus fineliners, metallic markers (they look quite flat in this photo), Inktense watercolors and gel pens.  As usual, please feel free to download and color.  I would love to see what you do with it!

I am making some progress on my bead journal for September.  I am liking the way it is coming so far.  I am not sure if it needs a lot more beads.  I don't want to obliterate the kaleidoscope that I printed as a base.  We will see, decisions, decisions. I heart Macro

Another tulip, but it is tough to tell that.  I really do like the abstract quality.  The color, the highlights, the shadows all work for me. I am linking with http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.ca/ http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/

More Coloring

Image
I am finding this rather addicting!  I finished my coloring page and am excited to start the next one!  I have been busy writing a proposal for a fairly big art project.  The coloring is creative but not taxing on my brain.  Just what I need. Check out the post from yesterday for the free coloring page.  Then show me what you do with it! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Here is a second coloring page.  Click on it and print it out.  Send me a link to show me what you do with it!  I would love to see how you color it!  Mine isn't quite finished yet but I think it is looking good.  I am thinking of putting it in one of my journals.

This piece is called Cosmos.  I finished it yesterday so that I could show it the art group meeting last night.  I didn't end up showing it.  Getting up and speaking about my art is not always easy for me.  I really like the piece.  If you look closely you will see there is a lot of hand stitching on this piece.  It is going to be in a show the Kitchener Public Library next month. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Sharon B at  http://pintangle.com/2015/09/01/take-a-stitch-tuesday-stitch-8-chain-stitch/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Pintanglecom+%28pintangle.com%29   has some gorgeous samples of the chain stitch.  I stitched mine with a metallic Kreinik thread.  Again, it is stitched on handmade paper.  I appreciate the simplicity of  this and will continue to keep the stitching simple as I work on paper.
