Take a Stitch Tuesday

Sharon B showed us the Herringbone Square stitch this week.  I had not tried this stitch previously.  I must have intuitively known that I would not be able to do it well.  I decided to try it because Sharon suggested that the lacing step could be done with interesting threads.  I have a lovely collection of threads and want to use them more often.  However, I definitely chose the wrong thread as it is nubbly and it just makes the stitch look messy.  Also, getting the stitch to actually be square was a big challenge for me and I failed.  I was thinking this could be a really interesting start and was hoping to build it into a larger motif.  But since it turned out rather poorly I think I will pick it out.  I enjoyed trying this stitch but I won't be doing it again.

  1. It IS a difficult stitch to get even. When I did it in the previous TAST challenge I made a row of them, and each stitch look different! That is why this stitch is best as an individual one, and on a free form embroidery, I think. It is good on a crazy quilt block, as 'anything goes' on such quilting.
