Mandala Monday

Here's another mixed-media mandala.  I have a painted background to which I applied some glitter glue and then the kirigami paper shape.  It has taken me a bit of time to get used to using the kirigami shape.  For some reason, I had been hesitant to add any marks to it.  I am not sure why.  Whatever, I have gotten over it.  I added marker, paint pen and glitter to this one.  It is great to play with abandon.

I work with seniors twice a week and last week one of our projects was very free mandala.  I gave minimal direction.  There really was no wrong way to do it.  The main idea was to have fun.  It was interesting to me to see some of them were quite happy to just play along.  Others were not so happy and really wanted step-by-step instructions.  In the end, all the mandalas they created were fabulous!

A good teacher is a leader, similar to a hiking guide. The job is to encourage and gently point out the route. The actual hiking must be done by each participant in the group. Along the way, they will find where to step and what path not to take.
You, too, should not be afraid to discover the right route for you, and add glue and glitter to 'paths' you have not yet taken.
