Slow Stitching Sunday

I have been having fun adding more circles to this piece.  I have been watching Ariane Zurcher on YouTube while stitching.  She is a left-handed stitcher and her instructions make more sense to me than right-handed.  That doesn't surprise me.  My Mom told me she could see I was going to be left-handed when I was young.  So she always put the crayon closer to my right hand and I would use it.  Ultimately, I am ambidextrous but I think left-handed if that is possible.

Ariane does really interesting mixed-media stitching.  She inspired me to think outside of the box.  I am considering how to make this piece dimensional rather than flat.  Such fun!

  1. I do think watching a video of a stitcher who is the sane handedness as you makes a difference! When I was stitching the Kathy Schmitz sampler last year, I would watch her videos and she is left-handed. Translating what she did left-handed to what I needed to do right-handed was a brain challenge!

  2. I've always thought to be ambidextrous would be a good thing. When I was a child I always got a sense that people thought to be left handed was odd. I guess it was a cultural thing cloaked in superstition. I'm loving all those circles.

  3. Your work is looking great. Yes, you can get a lot of inspiration from Ariane Zurcher. I used to watch her YouTube videos a lot. Has she added any new ones recently?
Being right-handed and lazy, I find it very hard to follow instructions for left-handed people. Sharon Boggon on Pintangle has a printed stitch guide with two sets of photos - one for left- and one for right-handed users. That's a great idea.
