 28 hooped mandalas.  I am calling this installation 'the place between breath'.   Here is my artist statement. In this chaotic time, stitching mandalas has sustained my peace and well-being.  Each mandala is an exquisite sanctuary that holds the transformative power of creativity.   Each stitch is a wordless journey into the sacred.  These mandalas hang as a spiral installation.  A spiral that is expansive. unending and where ideas of healing and meditation can be explored.  I desire to elicit peace if only for a moment, a stillness in the space between breath.  I have embroidered LOL onto this vintage quilt block.  I inherited many such blocks from a relative.  I have been trying to use them in a way that honours her and my own artistic expression.  I think Aunt Pat would like this one.   I will be swapping this one with a young artist who is about to graduate.  Her grad show will consist of a photograph of her own piece hung beside a piece she swapped for it.  She is making a piece every day for I am not sure how long and then swapping it for a piece that responds to it.  The piece that I am responding to is a vintage hanky.  She embroidered the word panky on it.  Thus my response is LOL.  Fun! This project has got me thinking about words a little more.  I love words even though I tend to use them sparingly.  I am wanting to start a new project in which I embroider words onto something.  At this moment I am thinking about using an unfinished quilt top.  I have st...

 This mandala is a manipulated photo printed onto mulberry paper.  I adhered it to fabric and have begun to stitch into it.  Just a few stitches and beads so far.  I find it is best to keep the embellishments to a minimum when I work with a photo as the base.  There is room for some but not a lot.  I wonder when my fascination with mandalas will end.  Maybe never.  

 I know it is a day late but it is never too late to share some love and cheer.  I saw these happy snowpeople in my frosty neighbourhood today.  It made me smile.

 I need a little help from this clever stitching community.  Pictured above is a vintage quilt block I inherited.  I have been finding interesting ways to use them.  My newest venture is to trade this with a young artist once I have embroidered a word on to it.  The young artist is working on her solo show for graduation.  Her idea is to create a piece of art each day and then trade it on Instagram.  Her show will have a photo of the piece she created hanging next to the piece created in response to it.  I hope I am describing her idea well enough.   I am trading her for a vintage hanky that she embroidered panky onto.  Giggles.  So clever!  I would love to come up with a word or phrase equally as clever but alas nothing has come to me.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me?   Also, don't you just love that embroidery is going to hang in an art gallery at a university!  Yesterday I participated in a zoom workshop.  There was a short journal exercise at the start.  We were to list five things were grateful for.  We then created five flowers and added our gratitude words to each of the flowers.  It was  quick and simple and fun.  My flowers are so bright and cheerful.  Just the thing needed on a cold February day.
