More distressed paper and sheer fabric

Image
I love when a technique inspires me to take it further.  Here I found a pattern for a dragonfly and played with it.  I used Inktense blocks to paint the paper, rather than acrylic paints.  I also added some shimmer with a silver metallic Pan pastel.  A few different layers of sheer fabric were added behind the paper.

This crazy quilt is finally finished and hanging on my wall.  It took forever to get this done.  More years than I care to mention.  I learned so much putting this all together.  My skills and knowledge have increased over the years so I can see where this piece could be improved.  I am trying really hard to not let the inner critic rage. Distressing paper and sheer fabrics

Image
My fibre guild met this morning.  For the winter months we are doing hands on workshops.  So fun!  Today we stitched sheer fabrics and paper.  We then painted the paper and distressed it.  We used a soldering iron to burn away the sheer fabrics.  The stitching was done by machine.  I also wanted to explore doing it with hand stitch, see bottom photo.   That of course takes longer and I have not finished yet.

I love texture and color!  This macro image is of paper towels after cleaning up inky and painted messes.  Getting messy is so much fun especially when you get juicy color.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

My new baby!

Image
I have made do with a used sewing machine my whole life.  One that never worked properly and made steam come out of my ears.  The last one was from my Mom and worked great but didn't do everything I needed it do.  I bought this beautiful Janome on Feb. 17 using some money from my inheritance from my Mom.  Feb. 17th was the 6 month anniversary of her death and I didn't realize it at the time.  I know Mom would be happy that I got a new machine.

The blocks are coming together fairly quickly.  Originally I thought I would use some templates that I bought years ago.  I have never used them and really do want to give them a try.  However, I really can't see them working well with these blocks.  I will plan to use them on the next project!   I am linking with  http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

I captured this frost with my the camera on my phone!  The camera that you have with you is truly the best camera!  I am quite pleased with this. I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/

February Bead journal

Image
I went for wintery colors for this piece.  I also incorporated another vintage earring.  Hours and hours of stitching go into these pieces.  It is a good thing I find hand stitching so relaxing!  Again this piece will go on my crazy quilt project for the month.  I will have all four seasons covered by the time I finish.

I hope you aren't tired of my book pages yet.  I am having a lot of fun with them.  This page has two of my hand painted fabrics quilted together.  I have also applied a tag that has beads and leaf sequence attached. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Funky fabric book page

Image
The fabric back ground is a monoprint with pencil crayon added as well as hand quilting.  The large shape (seems too large now) is gelli plate printed, handmade paper.  I did not capture the sparkle of the thread or paint that is on it.  Now I am not liking it so much and think I may add some beads for more sparkle!

I get so excited when my work is accepted into a show!  As my son said it means somebody, somewhere thinks my work is better than the work of someone else.  Anyway, art is not a competition and I would do it just for myself.  This image is of rust and pealing paint.  I had it printed onto a 16x20 canvas.  It will be hanging at a show at city hall this spring. Another book page

Image
This page includes hand painted fabric and paper.  The butterfly is created by fusing two pieces of sheer fabric together.  There is some glitter sandwiched between the two pieces before fusing.  I then cut out the butterfly and the edges remain stable because of the fusing.

I am making headway on fabric book.  This page is mono printed fabric with colored pencil and hand stitch.  I have also added a small piece of paper.  I really enjoy connecting fabric and paper in my work. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Fabric book

Image
I am making good progress on my book.  I am having a lot of fun with it.  Here is a page that was machine stitched and hand stitched.  It includes my hand painted fabric and paper.  Truly a mixed media page.

It is a very snowy day and I am tempted to stay in my pjs all day.  I am also tempted to get outside and capture a macro shot of a snowflake.  I have never managed do that successfully though so maybe staying inside where it is warm will win.  I will add sunshine to my day by looking at this macro shot of a sunflower.  I am linking with http://www.shinethedivinecreativityisaspiritualpractice.com/ and http://macromonday2.blogspot.ca/
