Journal Page Week 26

Image
I used Gelatos through a stencil to add color to the background of this page.  For me this page is all about the quote.  I find it to be so true.  I count my blessings everyday and my life keeps getting better!  Let's make life a celebration!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
My bead journal for June.  I love the beaded sky.  I think that turned out quite well.  The needle felted parts could still use some work. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
The Knotted Feather Stitch is interesting.  It seems I did it last time around about 3 years ago.  I then promptly forgot about it.  It seems to me that I have done that quite frequently.  I should have a sampler to refresh my memory when I am stitching.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.  I have stitched the Knotted Feather Stitch with DMC Jewel Effects on handmade paper.

Another kaleidoscope.  I can never get sick of kaleidoscopes!  They are so interesting. I am linking with http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/06/cooling-down-through-my-lens-nr-48.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

More Dyeing

Image
When I was dyeing threads last week I also dyed some ribbons.  Rayon seam binding is on the left and silk ribbon on the right.  They both really grab hold of the dye nicely.  I love just looking at them!  I am excited to think of a project to use them.  The colors are gorgeous! Journal Page Week #25

Image
The quote this week is 'You are enough'.  I wrote I am enough over and over on this journal page.  Mostly, I am pretty confident but there are times when I just don't feel good enough or talented enough or, or, or.  The older I get the more accepting I am of myself and the more I believe that I am enough.

I had so much fun dyeing these threads!  I can't wait to do some stitching with them.  My hands are still a bit stained from dyeing these threads last week but it is worth it.  I am very happy with the vibrant colors. I am linking with http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.ca/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Thanks to Sharon B  for the instructions for the Chained Cross Stitch.  I did here with some perle cotton that I hand dyed last week.  I was very excited to get stitching my hand dyed threads!  I am pretty pleased with how even my stitching is.  I was looking at an older piece the other day and my stitching was so far from even.  I have come a long way baby!

Some experiments are more successful than others

Image
I bought some permanent markers a couple of weeks ago.  Today I decided to experiment with them.  I did some scribble flowers on a piece of silk and then spritzed them with rubbing alcohol.  I found that the purple ink bled nicely.  The turqoise did not and therefore I am not showing a photo of that.  I am not overly in love with what I created here.  I am hoping that I can think of way to use it so as to not waste a piece of silk! Journal Page

Image
The colors from the previous bled through to this page but I don't mind that at all.  I added some doodles and the quote.  Simple and done.  Quote is by Christopher Columbus - 'You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore'.  Losing sight of the familiar, the safe, that can be really scary.  I think the joy of new discoveries warrant trying though!

Work in Progress Wednesday

While going through some of my painted and dyed fabric I came across this piece of felt.  It screamed landscape to me.  I started adding in some stitches.  I plan to remove the pink wheel cup 'flower' I stitched near the top.  It isn't working for me.  I am not quite sure what the next step is.  Any suggestions? The petals on this flower look like little scoops.  What a delight for me to look at flowers closely! I am linking with http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/ http://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/06/the-blooming-garden-through-my-lens-nr-46.html

Beading away

Image
I decided to treat the sky as my bead journal for this month.  I am making good progress with it.  There is still a lot to do but I am having fun with it! I am linking with http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.ca/

Journal Page week #23

Image
I am rather amazed that I have stuck with this journal prompt series for this long.  There are almost 3000 members of this Facebook group but only about 50 photos of journal pages are being posted each week.  My pages are quick and simple so that makes it easier for me to keep up.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
Well, not really work in progress any more.  It is finished.  This altered book is full of mixed media and stitched butterflies.  Each page of the book is cut so that the butterflies can fly out of the book.  I call it 'Escape'.  I am super excited that it has been accepted into an altered book show for this fall.  Having my art accepted into a show is so validating.  It feels so very good! My sweet husband bought me roses for my birthday.  Of course, I had to photograph them! I am linking with https://mersad-photography.blogspot.ca/2016/06/a-seefood-lunch-in-neum-through-my-lens-nr-45.html http://image-in-ing.blogspot.ca/

Further embellishment

Image
I was inspired to go further with this piece.  Last week I posted about it and Carin, a very sweet blog follower, commented.  Her comment sparked another idea in my head.  I added some more leaf prints to it.  Now I am thinking I will hand quilt this. Journal page

Another fantastic quote!  'Go and make interesting mistakes.  Make amazing mistakes.  Make glorious and fantastic mistakes.  Break rules.  Leave the world more interesting for you being here.  Make.Good. Art.'  by Neil Gaiman    Love it! For this page I color copied and shrunk a coloring page of my own design.  I used it to make a flap.  Interactive pages are so fun.  Up till now I have been doing double page spreads.  Having counted the pages left in this journal I realized that I am going to run of pages before the end of this journal prompt series.  The rest of the journal prompts will have to be done on single pages.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I was gifted with some fabulous sheer silks last week, bottom photo.  So lucious!  I was excited to try some needle felting with them.   The top photo is my progress this far.  The photo is not looking right at all, the colors are off.  Anyway, I used the silk to create some water and I used some wool roving to create a rocky, sandy beach.  I am thinking that I will do a beaded sky.
