Stitch a day project

Image
I am pretty pleased with myself.  I have managed to stay up to date with commitments and challenges.  No easy feat with having had a three week holiday on the other side of the world!  Admittedly, this stitch a day project got a bit stalled.  I took a package of silk threads with me on holiday.  They had been languishing for years and I decided it is time to use them.  I started stitching with said silk threads at the beginning of the month.  After about a week I realized there really isn't enough color variety for me.  They are all light in tone and for a work to pleasing there needs to be darks and mediums.  When I got home I dug out more silk threads and continued stitching.  Stitching silk threads onto silk fabric was lovely. Journal prompt #12

All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. This quote says you reap what you sew in a pretty way.  I think that this has been proven true.  I hope that I am sewing flowers!   I fed my paper through the printer the wrong way so the quote is quite hard to read.  I used a colour copy of a stitched project for the background.

I have managed to complete my March crazy quilt block before the end of the month.  Yay!  I really like when I can stay on track.  The first four blocks I am doing this year all have similar colours as I plan to stitch them all together.  They each have a bead journal project from a previous year incorporated into them as well.  I have been keeping the seam treatments fairly simple so that the beaded part will be the focus. This is my feathered up and down buttonhole.  Thanks to  Sharon B  for the instructions.  It seems that I have done this stitch before as I commented about it on Sharon's blog.  I actually have not recollection of it!  I used to have such a good memory!  It is a nice looking stitch.  I hope I can remember to use it again!

Flowers lend themselves perfectly to macro shots.  Probably should have cropped this shot.  Still, it is a bright spot in my day. Guild challenge

Yellow and white is the color combination for March.  I used some yellow fabric that I sun printed.  I added the silver gear charms and white beads.  Silver is close enough to white in my opinion.  I really like gears but I am not really liking this piece.  It is okay.  Sometimes done has to be good enough. Next time you think of beautiful things, don't forget to count yourself.  Good quote!  Admittedly, it is a bit hard to read on the busy background.  Oh well.  I love the background!  I color copied one of my bead journals, also enlarged it.  Color copying is a great way to get two for one. More and more I am learning to think of myself and my artwork as beautiful.  Adding beauty to this world is important to me.

The top photo is my crazy quilt block for February.  A bit late but finished.  I have a good start on my March block and should be able to get it finished by the end of the month. The bottom photo is my block ready to be sent to The Canadian Sesquicentennial Quilt     I didn't plan for this block to be my bead journal for March but now it has to be.  I just don't have time to do another beaded piece in March. Take a Stitch Tuesday

Sharon B  shows us the pistil stitch this week.  This is a stitch that I am familiar with and use regularly.  I tried to be clever and use it in a new way.  I wasn't particularly successful.  I added some french knots to it.  Not terribly impressive.  Oh well, I was in a bit of a rush.

It is pretty hard to take a bad photo in New Zealand.  Such a beautiful country!  Hubby says he would move there in a heartbeat.  As much as I loved the climate and the beauty there is no way I would move there.  I am a Canadian girl all the way. Stitching almost everyday

Image
This is my stitch a day project for February.  I am so pleased with it.  It makes me happy to look at it!  I have been stitching for March as well but I am a bit behind.  I don't have much on my calendar for the next couple of days so I am hoping to get caught up and post about it next week.  There are a number of projects that I am behind on doing.  I am trying to not let that bother me. Journal prompts 9 and 10

Image
Week #9 the quote is 'A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures anything.'  Laugh and sleep are definitely good!  Not sure if they are a cure for anything but it is possible! Week #10 'There is a lot that is good in your life - don't take it for granted.  Don't get so focused on the struggles that you miss the gift of today.'  Since coming home from holiday my heart has been overflowing with gratitude.  I am so very blessed.  I do not take for granted all that is good in my life!  And there is an abundance of good!

Almost done!  There are just a few little spaces that need some beads or stitching.   I have fallen a little behind on my stitching but a three week holiday on the other side of the world is a very good excuse! Take a Stitch Tuesday

It feels good to get to participate in Take a Stitch Tuesday again! Thank you,   Sharon B  for the instructions to the Whipped Chain stitch.  I have a lovely collection of fancy threads and decided this would be the perfect time to use one of them.  I chose the very fluffy Estaz by Glisten Gloss.  I am not very happy with it.  The fluffies shifted and left bare thread in spots.  I guess the only way to use that thread is by couching it down.  Kind of disappointing.

While on holidays I found this beautiful flower to photograph.  The color is exquisite!  No matter where I go I find myself wanting to get up close to the flowers. Even though it is pouring down snow, it feels good to be home! Happy to be home!

Image
Our New Zealand vacation was all about this guy.  My favorite man!  My sweet husband was able to cross off a number of things from his bucket list.  I am so very happy for him.  We climbed a mountain together.  Mount Dun on the south island of New Zealand.  That is one off my bucket list.  I am glad to say I have climbed a mountain and now I am done with that.  I won't say never but climbing another mountain is not high on my priorities. I am delighted to be home.  I was not homesick while in New Zealand in part because New Zealand didn't feel much different from Canada.  The people are kind and polite.  All was good.  I am very happy with my home and my life.  I am amazingly blessed and this vacation only reinforced that!
