Playing with my new printer

Image
I bought an Epson large format printer.  I neglected to think about the size of this printer would actually be.  Of course, it is large!  There is no room in my studio for it.  Thankfully, it works with wifi and my dear husband was able to set it up for me elsewhere in the house.  I have finally got around to giving it a try and I am pleased with the results.  I printed a kaleidoscope photo onto silk.  Naturally, I want to take it further with beading and stitch. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
This bright and cheerful piece is coming along nicely.  I still have the sky area to work.  I am thinking some gorgeous metallic threads would work well.  Also, I am considering adding beads, big surprise.  This piece is just for fun, no challenge is involved.  I am linking to http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/ https://estheraliu.blogspot.com/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
When I first saw the  Half Chevron Stitch  this week I thought, 'I don't like it and I am not going to do it.'  I thought about it a bit more and decided to try it.  Then I looked back at the comments on  Sharon B's  blog and saw that I had tried it last time and really liked it.  Interesting.  I stitched it on handmade paper.  Eventually, I will have enough of these pieces to put them into a book form.

Bead Journal

Image
It is rather a late start in the month for my bead journal but the inspiration was lacking.  It feels good to finally be using this lovely piece of indigo dyed cotton.  Funny that this piece doesn't have a single bead on it.  Yet. Work in Progress Wednesday

Image
I am really glad I signed up for the San Fransisco School of Needlework and Design's Burlesque Challenge.  It is due in less than a month and I feel confident that I will have all the stitching completed.  Challenges inspire me and due dates help to keep me focused.  I am having so much fun playing with the glitzy threads (donated by Kreinik) and fabrics.  However, I am not liking the row of silk ribbon flowers in the center.  I knew it as I was stitching them that they were likely going to be removed.  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://estheraliu.blogspot.com/ http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
I really enjoy when I have the time to participate in  Sharon B's  Take a Stitch Tuesday.  This week it is the Bonnet Stitch.  I think it made an interesting center for my flowers.  I have only tried this stitch once previously, back in 2012.  I did not feel successful with it that first time and never used it again.  I am happy to say that I felt more successful this time and have added to it to a crazy quilt block that I am also working on.

Indigo dyed cotton

Image
This piece of indigo dyed cotton was given to me by a lovely woman who belonged to our fibre guild years ago.  I came across it while cleaning and purging this week.  It was so kind and generous of her to give me this fabric and I always try to honour the giver by doing something with the gift.  I have had it for several years and no inspiration has struck as to how to use it.  What to do?  It is about half a yard of fabric. Keeping a journal

Image
I keep a variety of journals.  The ones that I like the best are my mixed media and junk journals.  Having just done a tidy and organize I looked through some of my older journals.  They reminded me of all the fun I have sloshing paint around in them.  Pictured above is a journal I have created using a box from an Amazon book order.  The top photo is the cover and I love that it wraps around.  I am still pondering how to keep it closed.  The bottom photo is the inside.  I haven't done much other than collect some things/junk that will go inside and sew in a couple of signatures.

Work in Progress Wednesday

It occurs to me that I have never posted about the finish of this quilt.  I finished it last year and had it hang at a show in St. Jacobs this spring.  I started this quilt many years ago and I am trying to not be critical of it now that I have learned and grown.  I am linking to https://www.quiltfabrication.com/ https://estheraliu.blogspot.com/ http://needleandthreadnetwork.blogspot.com/

Take a Stitch Tuesday

Image
Sharon B  showed us the  Herringbone Square  stitch this week.  I had not tried this stitch previously.  I must have intuitively known that I would not be able to do it well.  I decided to try it because Sharon suggested that the lacing step could be done with interesting threads.  I have a lovely collection of threads and want to use them more often.  However, I definitely chose the wrong thread as it is nubbly and it just makes the stitch look messy.  Also, getting the stitch to actually be square was a big challenge for me and I failed.  I was thinking this could be a really interesting start and was hoping to build it into a larger motif.  But since it turned out rather poorly I think I will pick it out.  I enjoyed trying this stitch but I won't be doing it again.

Stitching journal covers

Image
I am having a good play with stitching fabric collage journal covers.  My daughter in law suggested I do a mermaid altered book and I still may.  The mermaid theme inspired me to make my own style of junk journal.  I plan to give one to her and sell some for an upcoming studio tour.  I am linking to http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/

Work in Progress Wednesday

I am not exactly sure what I will do with this piece.  I am having so much fun stitching and beading into it though.  I love the riot of colour!  It is a bit too big to become a book cover and a bit too small to become a quilt.  I suppose I could add to it.  I definitely don't want to cut it down in size.  I will contemplate what to do as I continue stitching. Comments

I always enjoy getting comments on my blog posts.  I have such kind and thoughtful readers!  For over a month I have not been receiving comments by email.  Blogger isn't working properly and that is quite disappointing to me.  I like to respond by email to all who take the time to comment on my blog.  Trust me when I say that I am not ignoring you I just can't respond to an email that doesn't come to me. I am really hoping that they get this issue fixed soon.
